Good afternoon,

Just a quick update to all Oyster users.

Over the course of the year so far there have been multiple transponder changes made to Astra 2, two of which have impacted current Oyster software versions. If you currently use an Oyster fitted with either a Feature box or Command unit then please ignore this thread but those who have Oyster Vision II, Vision III or Oyster Digital system variants may find that the system is no longer able to find Astra 2.

In most cases the systems can be updated or at least the frequency list can be altered through a hidden menu in the system and, if you are aware of this the new frequencies are listed below. New software will be available to download from our website (www.ten-haaft.com) in the coming weeks but until then if your system is unable to locate Astra 2 then please give us a call in the office on 01858575928.

New transponder codes for Astra 2:

Transponder 0: 11265 V 27500 2/3
Transponder 1: 11836 H 27500 5/6
Transponder 2: 11934 V 27500 5/6
Transponder 3: 11307 H 27500 2/3

11265 is the default frequency on our latest software however if that is ever altered or turned off then the system will realise this once it has done a full search of it's elevation range (around 10 minutes for this) and switch to the next one in the list.
On a Vision II/III you can also, if impatient like me, hold the right arrow while the system is searching which will display the current search frequency. While holding that right arrow you can use the left arrow intermittently to scroll through the four that are programmed and set it to what you want.

As covered above these frequencies can be altered at any time on Vision II and Vision III systems if it's required however we do ask that the majority of customers contact us if they need to do this as it involves going into a service menu that houses base settings for the system. If the wrong thing is changed it can be detrimental to the system and can cause serious problems for the end user which Oyster Sat-Tech cannot be held responsible for.

There have also been channel changes on Astra 2 recently with BBC3 returning, W becoming free to air and a few other changes brought about my frequency reshuffles. If you have an Avtex Oyster TV we have a new channel list taking all of these changes into account which we will happily email out to anyone that asks. Please send an email to anthony@oystersat-tech.co.uk if you would like the latest list. Other makes of TV may require a rescan which unfortunately we cannot help with however the manufacturer of the receiver should be able to assist. Sky and Freesat powered systems should automatically update and should not require any adjustments.

I hope this helps but if anyone has any questions then please feel free to comment and I will answer as soon as I have time.

Anthony thank you so much for your wisdom and patience with us wrinkly ole Funsters, I don’t know what we’d do without your dedication and support.

Always appreciated 👍🏻

Hi Anthony

I found this thread when looking to see whether I can update the transponder Frequencies, on a Vision 111 which is fitted to a motorhome I’ve just bought. An Avtex TV is also fitted and was connected to the Vision 111 but the auto scan just continues ad infinitum, so my guess is that the previous owners simply didn’t use the TV due to this ’problem’.

If I understand you correctly, it’s relatively straightforward to input the relevant updated frequencies. However, is there a recommended engineer who covers the Somerset area and, if I ask them to update, how much would the (ball-park) cost be?

Thanks again.

Morning FozzieBear

Depending on the type of Oyster system you have it may be done with a quick phone call to me.
There are two types of Vision III systems. We have the Premium variant which uses an Avtex/Oyster TV to control the dish and there is the Vision variant which uses a four button control panel to control the dish.
If you have the control panel simply give me a call on 07979745688 when you are with the system and I can talk you through the process free of charge. If however you have the premium variant then we would need the Oyster brain box sending in. In this scenario we would update it via computer here and the cost including secure carriage back to you would be £78.

Thanks, Anthony.

Hopefully I’ll be able to call you on Wednesday, if you don’t mind, as we have a push-button system. Is there a good time to call?

Thanks again.

Chris

FozzieBear any time Wednesday should be fine. If I'm not available then my colleague Pat can talk you through the process also.

Hi Anthony. It seems that the LNB motor isn’t working so I manually altered its position as you suggested and this did the trick. For the time being, I’ll put up with the Ned to manually-adjust.

Many thanks for your help.

What about those of us with 'out of the Ark' Oyster 1 systems, the one with the map on the control box ?
Mine has the Jacksons upgrade and switch over box and usually works well if I can't get 4g to stream.
Thanks for your tech support 👍

Good question Figaro, as I was just wondering this myself, having the same system and Jacksons modification as yourself. Anthony OysterTech?

It works a treat, but every now and then I have to do a complete search, as some channels seem to disappear. Then I have to re programme them in order of choice again. :(

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Evening all,
Presumably these changes also apply to Maxview/Avtex setups?
I did once read that the box could be upgraded via a specially formatted usb Stick and downloads from internet but does anyone know if there are specialists who will do it for me?
Cheers

Well, that killed that thread.
Oh well…..

its relatively easy with the Maxview to update the system , if go on Maxviews website under support there is a link to download the latest update if your system needs it.
Once downloaded plug in an empty usb flash drive find the file in recent downloads and right click which will give you the option where to send it in the dropdown list which show the USB drive .
Takes seconds to do and once completed take the USB stick to your Maxview control box plug in and then follow the easy step by step guide on Maxviews website

Thanks Neil S, I will attempt this when I return from our current tour of France - much appreciated.

Morning Figaro and JockandRita

Sorry for my late reply. Had a few days off and needed to unwind/leave work behind for a while.

As I understand it Jacksons fix on the Vision I systems was to use the primary LNB on Astra 1 (German satellite) and then add a bracket with an offset LNB for Astra 2. The fix works I suppose but as the dish is not quite pointed at Astra 2 you do get a weaker signal and the system will not work as far as it should because of that either.
You shouldn't randomly loose channels unless you're at a the cliff's edge (so to speak) but then again channels get moved around by the satellite operators quite often so it may be those changes that have resulted in the need to rescan.

With most Vision I systems they'll still work on a horizontal channel so they can still function. If using a Sky box then you're restricted as they download their channel list from a default vertical frequency (11778) but if using a standard free to air receiver just make sure it's on BBC1 (not HD) and most Vision I systems should still lock on providing the software isn't too old.

I have channel updates for the Avtex but software and the such you'd be better off talking to them directly.
