We were thinking of visiting Oxford in December if allowed and the above site is open all year (unusual for a C&CC site) but it is all grass pitches. So wondering if anyone has visited in winter and is it OK for a 4.5t MH? Don't want to be getting stuck in the mud so to speak.

When we went there if it is really wet they park you on the road way according to how long you are staying. There is also a place for motorhomes to park in the park and ride on your last day just opposite the campsite.

Great sounds OK then, thank you.

You certainly won't be allowed on Tony the warden's grass - he is very precious about it 🤣

The team there do a splendid job of getting everyone parked on the site roads, as mentioned above.

I have stayed there often over the last few years, visiting my son, even during the Beast from the East a couple of years ago which certainly was a challenge!

Enjoy :)

We called in there two years ago on the off chance and was told they were only parking on the roads and were limited how many they could take and that they were now full. I said I had a double set of tracks and I could park both sets of wheels on them, He asked to have a look at them and as they were heavy duty ones he said seeing your not a big van ( 6.36 ) do you want to set up near the toilets, he then led us over to the block and let us park up on our tracks.
As it turned out it snowed that night and the following day they shut the the toilet block as it was freezing. Luckily we have heated tanks and good insulation so we were comfortable.
We did’nt leave a mark on their grass when we left.

We went there (for last years Christmas market), we parked on a grass pitch, but kept our driven (front) wheels on the site roadway... it was fine.

I hope they've updated the electrics since I was there a few years ago as the warden had to keep coming around to keep resetting the circuit breakers where too much current was being drawn from too little supply! Oh yes, the toilet block was clean but tired and I'd hope that's been updated. Good location though, easy bus ride into the beautiful city.

When we went last, all parking was on the road and EHU cables were provided for you.
I think some may have been doubled-up to reach. Not what you'd get on a CAMC site.

Great location, tired facilities, 25 min walk into town. Too many good pubs.

Not been for a few years but the Eagle and Child was were Tolkien and CS Lewis used to drink and discuss. Plus other famous academics.

afaik the oxford site doesnt have shower/toilet availability atm (that is for rest of this year)

The Chequers and Turf Tavern pubs and the Botanical Gardens are worth a visit.
If the weather’s nice, walk along the canal to Jericho and have lunch at the Bookbinder’s.

We use our vans facility's but nipped in when walking past

lovely site, great location

There’s a reason why they are not investing in refurbishments at the site but I have forgotten what it is. AdamH ??

Something to do with the lease running out and the possibility of being unable to renew it I think.

The land is leased from Go Outdoors, it was a tip behind Touchwood Garage before being re developed. The shop wanted to redevelop the land into a car park and display area. The council have always been keen to keep a camp site for the city hence re development by Go Outdoors has been refused. A few years ago, there was a plan to make the pitches around the outside all hardstanding but the last I heard was the club could only get an annual lease so too much risk to invest.

Might pay to use a site further out and park and ride , loads of buses and Oxford city is very anti vehicle anyway .

It was my friend's special project when he worked for City of Oxford Estates Dept., and he was very proud of it!
