We've often wondered if it's possible to overnight within the parking area at Cocquelles so we tried arriving late Saturday evening for a 5am Sunday train. The result was that we, along with 4 other MH's were politely but firmly ordered off the premises until closer to our departure time. So beware if you're thinking of trying it.

Gravelines (y) (y) (y) :giggle:

We now start and end our french holidays at Gravelines since having attempts by immigrants to get in our van whilst on the marina carpark at Calais.Great restaurant now adjacent to Gravelines aire! Also nice place to wander the ramparts and the town!Always been the rule with Eurotunnel not to arrive more than two hours before train!BUT plenty of parking area at both ends so you would think they could be more flexible! Especially now with all the problems stopping in or near Calais. We had immigrants break into our camper whilst my wife was in it at Auchen supermarket and attempts to get in at City de Europe! In broad daylight☹️

Just nothing to compare, we love it.

We’ve tried twice to find Gravelines and still not sure if we found it or not:LOL:

We always seem to find somewhere though for the night.

We’re booked on a train uk bound tomorrow evening.
Would never stop within an hour or two of the tunnel though, heard too many stowaway stories.

I thought the same but we was there in early November along with another 20+ Moho. No sign of any illegals
Same here, stopped there going out in Sept and coming back late Oct,, very busy but felt very safe..BUSBY.

We also used the aire at Sangatte on our first and last night during our recent trip with no problems. Felt safe and no sign of any trouble, the beach is also handy for a nice walk to stretch your legs or walk the dog.

If going via the tunnel we usually stop at the Escalles campsite - 5 mins from the tunnel. There is a free Aire on the right when driving down into Escalles however it says "no parking between 11pm and 6am" but we have never had a problem. Gravelines is better for the ferry for us.

It used to be but was shut to overnight parking a couple of years ago. Plenty of Options at Sangatte, Wissant or Gravelines.

Super secure but 10€ per 24 hours

Calais Aire
62100 Calais
France
hi stealaway. not when we was there a few years back the guy that lives there who is the night watchman told us he chased off 2 lads trying to nick bikes off the backs of m/h's we have never been since. its only secure when you use the adjoining campsite i think its only a couple of euros more but closes end of September . it was a sad day they did away with the old Aire next to the chip van . val

We used to like staying at Marck, but we have tried over the last few years (ignoring Covid years) and we haven't been able to get access. No one answers the phone number.

Any U.K. van is likely to be a target near to Calais.

We always stayed the night at Cite Europe, then at Sangatte but now we keep well away.
A screwdriver in your locker/ door locks, even if they don’t gain access, is going to cause you a deal of inconvenience as well as cost.
Not worth the risk as things are in northern France, just go a bit further away.

Richard.

You said this was a few years back. They have now built a ten foot fence around it with and electric gate.
I would never leave any bikes on the back of a van overnight
