Hello team
Went and picked up my van from its storage unit and as I drove off the EHB had obviously pitted to the disks - lots of hard. Teaming to get it smooth again, but two questions:
  • can you override so when it’s parked up for a while (on the flat obvs) you can have no EHB on
  • if not does this create long term damage that will need me to continually go move the van about during winter??

Can you help team??
Thanks

Now you have got me thinking about ours which is on IVECO chassis, I believe that there is something in the setting along the lines of "auto apply" so possibly I could untick this option and apply manually as required, for yours you would have to check if you have any similar setting.

On my RAV4, in addition to the auto unselect option, I can press the foot brake and then press the handbrake manual button until you hear it release and it stays like that until you drive again and the auto setting re engages.

From the X290 handbook:

"Disengaging the electric parking
brake manually

The ignition device must be in the MAR
position in order to manually release
the parking brake. Furthermore, you
need to press the brake pedal, then
press the switch on the lower part of
the dashboard on driver's side.
Noise may be heard from the rear of
the vehicle and a slight movement
of the brake pedal may be detected
during disengagement.

Each automatic parking brake
engagement can be cancelled by
pressing the switch on the lower part of
the dashboard on driver side and at
the same time moving the automatic
transmission/dual clutch automatic
transmission lever to position P (Park)
or the ignition device to STOP (versions
with manual transmission)."

I have my electric handbrake set to automatically engage when I put the gear selector in the park position, but if I keep my foot on the brake I can push to button to disengage the brake before switching off the ignition which is push button on mine but probably makes no difference.
The automatic electric brake action can be programmed out in the menu.

I’ve been trying to answer this very question for over a year and still have not got a confident answer to say it’s ok and safe to leave it with tte electric brake off and they all say you shouldn’t leave it with just the auto gearbox in P. I had it on all winter without problem but have driven it every 1-2 weeks.

I guess it depends if you park it on a slope. I do not leave my manual handbrake on for long periods as the pads will eventually rust to the discs.
The transmission lock (P park position) will hold OK and is certainly not an issue on level surfaces.
