On and off for many years.
I just checked our old Hymer first registered on 6 Aug 1982 and which has been a lawn ornament for around 6 years.

It's showing as having failed it's MOT in August 2021 but nothing that can't be fixed I think. The lack of idle in the engine may be problematic (could be straight forward or major) but the rest quite cheap and simple to fix as far as I am aware.

It's on a Merc chasis. I've often wondered what happened to it.

Repair immediately (major defects):

  • Rear Registration plate insecure (0.1 (a))
  • Emissions not tested engine will not idle when choke released (8.2.1.2 (d))

Repair as soon as possible (minor defects):

  • Electrical wiring inadequately secured battery area (4.11 (a) (i))

Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):

  • front leaf spring u bolts corroded
  • rear suspension components slightly corroded

My old (1972) VW camper has been SORN'ed since 2015.
It will make a good barn find for someone, as it was as solid as a rock when I sold it back in 1988

Often wonder what happened to our first 2 vans. Know the mizar sold not long after we part exes it. Escape was off the radar for a bit, but did see one on personal plates but couldn’t discretely get near enough to check if it was the one, Had a slight blemish so am sure we would recognise it.

Our very first (self build) was scrapped :( The Hymer was the second and our previous van had a new V5 issues earlier this year so either has a new owner or the owner has moved. Anyway it has tax and MoT so I assume is in use.

Funny how we get attached to these lumps of metal, fibreglass and plastic!
