Out of the 4 gas hob burners, one seems to sometimes burn an orange flame in part, rather than all blue as you’d expect from your gas hob.
Why is that?
Does it mean I have a blocked jet or it needs cleaning?
If so, what’s best to use to clean them?
Thanks

Is it all the time or if you’re near the end of a bottle. The other half always says she can smell when the bottle is getting near the end.

It’s most of the time but just one burner which is part orange and part blue flame

Normally means incorrect air mix and it will be giving off carbon monoxide.
Thanks the flame spreader off, usually held on by two screws and give everything a good clean.

Generally shows a lack of oxygen being entrained causing incomplete combustion, normally just a good clean should clear it but it may need adjustment.

Don't forget incomplete combustion could lead to an increase in CO production.

If your gas hob flame is burning orange, then your worktop needs attention as it is an indication of oxygen starvation. An orange or yellow flame means that it's releasing carbon monoxide as it burns which isn't what you want at all. It can be caused by a partial blockage of the air intake to the burner. A healthy flame will just be blue. It can be temporary and caused by particles in the air. It is worth cleaning the hob and burners though as an orange flame can also indicate sodium ions from salt, possible from a spillage of salt or salted water in the burner. Make sure your CO monitor is working.

Thanks everyone.
Would you use Meths to clean the burners?

It's more likely to need a small wire brush, or similar. The problem is quite likely to be rust and grime around and inside the caps on the burners. They need to come off to clean inside and make sure that all the holes are clear.

Toothbrush and washing up water will normally clean the burner, could be where something has been spilt

That's much more likely. Incomplete combustion (dangerous as has been mentioned - and smelly) causes a very yellow flame evenly spread around the burner. An orange flame affecting one part of the burner is most likely caused by a spill when cooking.
