Hi all,
After some advice once again......
Shows seem to be pointless at the moment with restrictions/ covid etc etc.
I am trying to get in my head, if I did an open weekend would you A - Feel safe enough to come and B - Would it get the numbers?
There are a load of new launches at the moment, however there is no NEC.
Could be a potential weekend to utilize a campsite down the road and open the vans with a load of booze and bbq!

Do you guys think this will work, when I say work I ultimately mean get drunk with a few of you whilst selling a load of vans.
Would you all feel safe etc.

This is not a lets discuss Covid, conspiracy, politics, non binary toasters etc etc.......

Out and about Live's Warners shows, although beset by bad weather, seemed to find it economically viable. This season has a dearth of activities to justify somewhere to go but I am no expert on the daily changes of 'rules' as to what is permitted.

Not sure I’d go to an open weekend as we try and avoid crowds.

How about a private viewing event with limited numbers of people, by appointment only - seems more exclusive

That’s a really good idea, however at an open weekend I am normally fortunate to have a lot customers I have dealt with come and say hi and can I have a beer. Normally I can do 6 or 7 couples at once which means one beer.....
Now, if I have to meet a lot of couples individually over the course of a day all of whom say “Si shall we have a beer?” It means by about 3pm I will be smashed and the deals I do whilst drunk don’t make economic sense at that point!!!!

Sorry to sound flippant but what’s the difference between an open weekend and just being open at weekends 🤔
Being open at weekends is same old, having an open weekend is a bit of an extravaganza. I put my most amazing vehicles with stupendous deals you would be a fool to not buy on show. I then supply you with booze and bbq and maybe even a Z list celebratory and call it a Warner’s show, sorry I meant open weekend!!!

I learned today that Bürstner and LMC have pulled out of the January CMT fair in Stuttgart. The EHG haven't said they are/not attending yet but I can't see them going. Looks like everyone is guessing that in the depths of this winter we're all going to be locked up/down.

Many Dealers are doing their own launches. CamperUK have an event this weekend showing off 2021 Bürstners and Travelworld are showing off new Hymer and Niesmann's at events this month and next. I like these smaller events and staff have a lot more time when they are not dealing with thousands of tuggers and tenters just having a mooch around motorhomes like they do at the NEC

Being realistic and working within guidelines it should be an invitation only event, publicise it by all means and include the words free alcohol and you will get every man and his or her dog., Show what you have on offer for sale via the net and allow 1/2 to 3/4 hour per visit and then ensure loads of disinfectant used to clean vans , A bit of a faff but would make perspectiuve customers feel assured Just publish a list of times vans and anything else that you would think might entice punters? Free overnight camping? Buffet? No thanks! And just drink Ribena or Barrs shandy! No shame no one knows!

Would come but a bit far from Suffolk for a weekend,
We should be in Devon Next May, so will come to see you then, unless you have a MH to suit us before then.
Hope it all goes well for you
Will PM you soon.
Joe

Sounds like it would be great in normal times but in our current situation anything that encourages larger amounts of people to gather in one place for whatever reason regardless of any precautions/safety measures in place would just be silly and probably not as successful as you would like anyway.

BUT if you want to flog off that Kon Tiki Sport 599 you have for £40k I’ll be there any weekend you have in mind :roflmto:

That is a sexy vehicle lol.
I can now say Motorhomes are sexy as I have a guy trying to part exchange a Lamborghini against a Knaus!

Sorry we are both busy on the 31st October😀
I will be with the pair of you!!! This is actually “Honest” it is written into my contract that of England are playing in the rugby I won’t be there. Genuinely don’t care about Motorhomes then. Heater has stopped working, don’t care. Can’t remember how to turn your gas on, don’t care. Crashed your Motorhome into a tree and expect me to fix it for free don’t care...
Ring me to discuss rugby and tactics 2 hours before the game, I may be free for a 10 minute chat!!

Be there like a shot if you was a bit closer... Long trot for an over night though

If it was today, we would be there like a shot but as we leave Brean Sands in the morning for either of the slow or very slow motorways back towards London, I cannot see us wanting to use either again until the road works are completed. (The majority of these two major roads are beset with speed restrictions, really).

To be honest if you would just knock a substantial amount off some of the motorhomes we would be interested in buying one.

You could forget the alcohol then to offset the cost :giggle: :giggle: :giggle:

There’s always the A303, oh how I laughed. Mind you I’ll be on that on my way to Heathrow to pickup darling daughter! Landing at 4pm on a friday, just as well I love her.

I know that Concorde and PhoeniX ran a similar event in Germany for around a week to coincide with the Dusseldorf caravan salon that they were not exhibiting at, the event was strictly controlled in terms of numbers of attendees as you had to have a reservation, all vans sanitised between views and copious amounts go hand gel.

Until the CV situation improves we will be avoiding crowds. Getting on with living but being careful, so we would not attend. Nothing lost though as our present m/h is less than a year old so we aren’t looking anyway.
Also, the fact that we are in “lockdown “ here might involve a fine, and i’m skint :giggle:

If you do go ahead with the idea I hope it works for you.(y)

We’ve been to quite a few of the MHF “gatherings” this Summer plus the New Forest event which was held in glorious weather. There were quite a few vans at the New Forest event.

I have a feeling that because of the time of year and the location of Alan Kerr the uptake might not justify all your efforts. Unless of course you meant in the Spring. I just think people are starting to shut their motorhomes down and are starting to get nervous about Covid.

We were at Highlands End, West Bay, at the weekend, glorious weather, on the Sunday there was a big speed boat racing event on but it was still quiet. You’d normally not be able to move. Even The Hive on the beach was empty.

We’re not particularly nervous about it in the South West but clearly others are. I’m not normally a negative person but I’d hate to see you waste your time and money.
