So we left home in the rain and travelled to Newhaven for the ferry. All good except the van is no longer white .
We noticed that the batteries did not seen to be holding charge, which I put down to them not being used properly for the past two years.
Arriving at the terminal I was told that even though I had a confirmation pdf from DFDS, there was no booking. Money was missing from my bank account though! We had made the booking via Aferry and with our previous bookings cancelled led by the french covid, something had got screwed up along the way.
However, we bought a single and found the crossing to be millpond smooth. Nice to see duty frees cheaper than tesco for a change.
Big shock came when we landed and refueled. Average diesel prices in France now €1.95 - £1.65. We had filled up at Morrisons before we left @ £1.48.
We visited several motorhome shops and could not believe the prices being asked for batteries - at least twice uk prices. We eventually found a Halfords equivalent which had batteries at uk/amazon prices. Biggest hassle was removing the seat to install the new batteries.
Weatherwise, its been raining every day while travelling but clear at night (and therefore cold!) Thank goodness for diesel heating.
We only aim to drive 3-4 hours a day and with fuel prices on the way up, are sticking to 55mph.
We have been using the Camping-Car Parks for our nightly stops and can thoroughly recommend them.
We are now on the beach at Messanges for a few days, before heading down into Spain and Portugal.
With luck, we will be able to use our full 90 days this time!

With taking the exchange rate into consideration the fuels about the same then.

£1.48p per litre equals 1.80€.....as you correctly stated..

Our local cheapo station here in Murcia was selling at 1.60€ per litre which I believe equals £1.31p.....two weeks ago it was selling at 1.30€ per litre....big increase for everyone just now....when we were restricted due to Covid it was 0.91€......but we couldn't go out....

Two weeks ago we paid Euros1.65 in Rouen, which if you ve got a decent card is £1.37. I was really pleased to fill both tanks in Spain at Euros 1.36. But its going up everywhere even Luxembourg.

We're gonna be filling up at Tesco near Eurotunnel before we cross over, not sure where we'll get fuel in France though as our 90 litre tank won't get us into Spain (we do miss our 120 litre one!).

Mel you will only need 30lts in France to get to Spain.

If you are over 60 I'm going to give you some bad news. Booking by phone or at the port if you are over 60 you get a 20% discount.

When you phone they normally ask, only the person booking needs to be over 60, no proof required but I suppose they could check your passport.

When I bought our ticket, they just asked who was over 60. No proof required.
