Omnia stove top oven

We are increasingly camping without ehu. We don’t have an oven. We don’t have an inverter and only a small powerbank. So this means I can’t use my Remoska, which whilst not using it a lot was useful. I was wondering about an Omnia. I have read some stuff about them, including on here. But I have two main questions:
Do they use a lot of gas? Do you have the burner on full all the time? So if cooking for 30 mins, that would use quite a lot?
How easy are they to use? I wouldn’t be able to experiment at home as we have an induction hob. I don’t want something complicated.

Also, a bit of research shows a number of accessories such as racks and silicon molds and non stick inserts, and a recipe book. What have folks found worthwhile?

We have one that we occasionally use. I find that things generally take a bit longer in it than in a more traditional oven.

I usually end up turning the gas down once the whole thing has heated up.

I bought the rack and the silicone liner. I rarely use the rack (probably only if heating up pre-baked goods) but I use the liner pretty much all the time. It makes the clean up much easier/faster.

agree on the silicon liner it’s a must.

We use ours offen.

I bought a second hand one about 6 years ago , and bought a new non stick base and it is great I prefer it to the silicon liner I had previously as well.

Used for all sorts of- last weekend I made bacon and cheese croissants for lunch

Bread, Macaroni cheese , nachos, lasagne etc all easy. The limit is the shape.

Best tip is get the bottom ring hot on its own , add cooking ring and lid heat a few minutes and turn down a bit.

I added thermometer to mine.

Plus Christmas dinners in the camper, 2024 effort in Paris - potatoes on the bottom , stuffed pork with blue cheese on top…and pigs in blankets.

You can buy a thermometer off amazon to put on the lid to make them more oven like. I don't think they use much gas but you have to be careful as they get very hot.

If you already have a large cooking pot with a metal lid (not glass as that makes stuff sweat) try using that on the hob with a heat diffuser underneath to create an 'oven' as you'll likely find you can do pretty much the same stuff in that which you would in an Omnia without the 'polo' issue and can obviously use it for stews etc too. Also if you have a rack for your Remoska you can use that in the pot too to raise stuff on the very hot bottom and allow the heat to circulate freely.

I bought an oven temperature gauge and fitted that to the lid. Then adjust the gas to maintain an even temperature. Once up to temperature it takes very little heat to maintain. The shape takes a bit of getting used to. The silicone insert is great.

We do have an Omnia but I have only used it a few times. I found it hard to get the heat and timing right; I think you need to experiment and practise a bit to get the hang of it.

Some people love them, for example, Philly & Keely on YouTube. Here are a couple of links to their videos where they talk about the Omnia.

We have stopped using the Omnia because we now use our Remoska. We replaced our Bluetti AC50S power bank with an EcoFlow River Pro 2 for various reasons. The EcoFlow can power the standard Remoska and it's much easier to use than the Omnia.

Maybe you could think about upgrading your power bank.

Definitely second the non stick base , much much easier to use than the silicon liner. I also use a thermometer and take a cooking thermometer from home to jab into food to check the internal temperature. I use mine mostly in winter when it’s harder to cook outside.
