Older Premium Brand versus New A Class

Would you choose an older premium brand or a brand new modern A Class at a similar price?

  • Older Morelo (for example)

  • Brand new Hymer (for example)

Prompted by the Morelo for Beginners thread, I took a look on-line at used Morelos and was pondering as per the title. Which would you choose, and why?

For example, the following used Morelo is available at £139,000:

And this brand new Hymer is up for £141,000:

Ask any dealer who really Know their stuff. They will tell you Morelo any time! Hymer are using their name to promote a poorer substitute to what they used to build.

Next time you have half hour to spare in your Hymer ....Look at the wiring and the way its done ....Then come back and say they are at their best now? I dare you ??

Thanks for that but you didn't cast a vote.

Is it clear that its a poll?

Ian

Edit: it seems that I needed to vote to see that a (your) vote had been cast!

Actually I did! I voted for Morelo any time. If it does not show what I voted...ask Jim? I would not have a clue?

Edit....I did the same? Oh dear Lol

It might have been bleedin’ obvious to you that the originator of the poll should have to vote in order to see that any votes at all had been cast, but it wasn’t to me. :moon2:

Ian ?

End of the day though the van has to work for you, and you are not really comparing apples with apples, the Hymer will go places the used Premium van won’t, you have to want that sort of van in the first place.

Martin

I couldn't afford either, but in your position definitely an older premium one.

It was curiosity rather than a buying decision that prompted my post! ?

I would not buy either, I don’t know how anyone can justify so much money unless they are living in it or the money is relevant to what money they do have.....

Neither ... I'll stick with my new dumpy and cute looking Carthago! :inlove:

As I am £100k away from both, my call is that I couldn't spend that much on something 8 years old.. but I wouldn't buy the Hymer with a 2.2 Engine at any price.

Only you know what fits the bill, one of them has lost a shedload of money already. The other will the instant you buy it.

My thoughts are that folk in the Market for a Morelo aren't buying one like that … bid £130k

Not sure that I get your meaning?

Morelos, like other brands, are available new and used; you’re not suggesting that folks only buy new Morelos, are you?

Sorry, it made sense in my head..

Its a premium brand, so has a limited appeal, simply on cost. If i am buying used , in that market , its at a price where a lot of people will baulk 'because they can get a new one for that'.. kinda what you are saying.

I would say that at that money, people dont want to get something 8 years old.. so buyers are not quite as plentiful.

There are a lot more people who would spend £140k on a new one than used IMO..

And having a good look at the £280k one, it doesnt offer anything more than my 2002 A class in terms of space . I would want slide outs as a minimum , on that level of unit.

You can also get Morelos concordes etc on MAN truck chassis for similar money on the uesd market as lo g as you have the licence that is.

Personally I won't choose to have a van like those, but an 8 year old van is still 8 years old with the emissions and technology available at the time.
