we tried to use our fridge on gas last week but could not get it to light. All gas appliances were serviced and said to be working last summer.

The oval pizo window on image flashes and clear cks when we turn the knob to gas. When we hold this knob in the flashing and clicking stops but nothing happens.

We have mainly been on hookup so haven't needed gas fridge but would like to use aires this summer. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Gas is working on cooker qnd heating and isolating switches all on. The controls on the youtube video we have watched are different as there seems to be an extra dial.

Bit like an old caravan one of ours from a while ago. Do you have to turn the temperature setting all the way to coldest and hold it in while you initiate the spark ?
Sometimes the gas can take an age to come through.

The burner tube may have squatters.
Spiders and their webs can block the jet as can any rust debris from the burner tube.
Remove the lower grill outside and remove the burner tube to clean any crud out, give it a good blow around the jet as a first step.
DON'T poke anything in the jet... Its easily damaged.
Also, look for the gas manifold block, a brass bar with red knobs and a few pipes, and make sure the fridge supply is turned on. The engineers have a habit of turning them off after servicing.
It will be on the floor under a cupboard or drawer.

That usually indicates it's lit. If it's not lit it just carries on clicking.
Keep it held in for 20 / 30 seconds after clicking stops, then put your hand over the top vent after a few minutes and you should feel the warmth of the flame.
If it's been serviced flue should be clear but worth checking.

Sounds like no gas, sometimes on older installations there is a brass inline tap as well as the normal isolation valves. Another possibility it could be a sticking gas valve. Should be easy to fault find compared to the modern ones with all the electronic crap.

Figaro - its not lit because it stops flashing as soon as you press it in and there is no light in the piezo window to say it's on.

Lenny where might the brass inline tap be?

Jockanezer, i will try turning temperature setting to the coolest. We turned it half way down but will see if that helps

Pappajohn, it is switched on at these pipes. That is what i meant by isolation switches - don' know correct terminology! They are alongside the cooker and we have checked them. Is this the brass inline tap?

We will go to the storage this weekend to give it a wash and try everything we can think of and that folks have suggested. If nothing helps, we will contact the engineer again but just trying to save the £50 or so it will cost especially if it is just us not knowing how to switch it on!
