Had a quote £138.47 using original Fiat oil filter/synthetic oil is this about right price to pay. Need original filter to keep warranty,

I’ve posted this invoice before, it details the oil and filter prices charged by Fiat Proffesional in Bristol.
I’m not going back as I think expensive, I’m going to try Huttons Bleadon recommendation of mikebeaches

I tend to live in the past with pricing sometimes, but suppose looking at your invoice £70.35 inc VAT plus labour the £138.47 inc VAT i've been quoted isn't far off. Thanks for posting your invoice.

Seems pretty fair for a garage bill. If you were doing it yourself reckon on about £16 tops for a genuine filter from Desira Group in Norfolk or SG Petch in Darlington. They advertise on eBay and are cheaper than both my local FP dealers even after postage costs. Oil to the correct Fiat spec is about £50-£60 tops if you avoid the hideously overpriced Selenia.

If you're getting it done at a garage, make sure that they have the equipment and know how to reset the service and oil degredation counters, or you'll need access to suitable software/kit if you're doing it yourself.

Wrong ACEA specification. No indication that it meets the correct Fiat specification. In fact, it doesn't claim to meet any specifications at all, just says "corresponds with"!!!

Quick check suggests its produced in a Lithuanian factory, not necessarily in itself a problem, but the manufacturer is not a members of the ATIEL industry body.

Pole, berth, barge and wide come to mind. In fact, why would you even consider that when there are very good oils such as Fuchs and Shell available for not much more at all?

I use a haulage/bus company to do all my servicing. I asked if they were okay with the Hymer A class access, they just laughed and said I should see some of the old buses and lorries they service.
I had a full service incl all filters done, cost £220 all in. No problem with garage as they have 40 ton quarry lorries as well as trucks and buses. FIAT in Inverness couldn't cope.

Job for tomorrow ,ok a little older fiat 2.5tdi but do it yourself and it gets done right .(y)

I believe First service is 30,000 miles or 2 years whatever coms first
Most people won’t do 30,000 miles in the first 2 years so don’t need to go to fiat for a service at all
To keep their warranty

exactly mine had only done 14000 at 2 years old the next oil change will be at 4 years old

I agree with you guys about 2 years or 30,000 however, oil is probably the most important thing to keep an engine in good condition throughout its life, I did my first oil change 4,000 and one year.

Having had literally dozens of cars over the past 20 years all with high milage plus a track car which I change the oil on every time I use it . It does seem to keep the engines bomb proof.

I serviced my 2010 ducato myself, all filters & oil came to £55.00.
Also Fiat DON'T make oil filters,or any other filters, brake pads etc,so any vat registered garage can carry out a service & you still retain your warranty.

Nothing wrong with that price from the O P
In my opinion how on earth can they get any where near the price of you doing it yourself. Some people are ok doing it themselves we see horror stories of Sunday morning mechanics fixing there own vehicles then you have to think these idiots are driving with you on the road, we have seen brake pads fitted the wrong way round it really does worry me what we see.

Would you let a accountant service your gas boiler at home??? I pay around 3k a year Just to keep my diagnostic equipment up to date, this stuff has to be paid for some how so does the blokes wages plus the overheads of the garage. If you do it yourself how are you going to reset the service indicator plus do a diagnosis check as part of the service.
Simple answer is your not

Oil and filter change at my garage about £50, Full service around the £200 Mark.. but it's a 2002 Peugeot..BUSBY.

£50 for an oil and filter change really !!!! Take the vat out of that your left with £40 Where is the profit in that for a business ????? Wouldn't drive it into our workshop for that
No wonder so many small businesses go bust any one can be a busy fool

Years ago, breakdowns were almost the norm. Old vehicles serviced as and when. Nowadays we are able to afford regular services and oddly enough, breakdowns have fallen into the category of burst tyres or other faults not associated with normal running. If a weakness is reported, it is sorted.
Peace of mind!
