My Tomtom satnav has lost its sound, I have checked settings and they seem ok so have come to the conclusion it is the speaker that is faulty.
It has fitted a small 30mm ish speaker 2w 4ohm but I cannot find find one, there are lots of 2w 8ohm speakers around will that be ok to use ?

Thanks

I’ve had and still got 4 TomToms and they have never done that, It might be that Jane is having a rest.

I had a TomTom that lost sound, using a chat line with TomTom thay suggested various fixes, including uninstall some software etc, after several goes, including postcodes could only be 5 digits, ...they were useless...TomTom asked me if the volume was turned up ...grrrrr....they offered to fix it for £90 plus vat, as a valued customer......
Any way I took it apart and wired up an old earphone and got sound, so the speaker was dead....
Went to local model shop and bought a small speaker used in model railways....£6.....still working after eight years. (y)(y)

An 8 ohm speaker will be OK but it will reduce the sound level by 50%.
But if you didn't know that I'm wondering how you determined the speaker has gone as you would need to look at the output with an oscilloscope or connect another speaker.

There is no sound at all from the machine, ie from the key pad bleeps, warning sounds, or voice.

I have carried out a couple of updates since this happened aswell thinking it may be a software issue.

Meter the speaker. Audio frequencies are near DC so you would expect 4 ohms resistance (ish maybe a bit less) if it's OK 👌
