Since 1st January 2020 many of the toll roads in Spain have been made free and we have been making good use of the AP-7 on the Eastern side as we travel back up on our slow homewards journey. We love the coast but it can be a bit 'samey' after a while so being able to do some travelling at a quicker pace has been great and some of the AP-7 is very, very beautiful as you go a bit more inland and through the mountainous areas.

Just be aware that not all toll roads are free, indeed some parts of the AP-7 are still chargeable, but more and more will become free as their 'contracts' with external companies come to fruition and are not renewed.

Still small tolls on AP 7 past Costa del Sol yesterday? not enough to be bothered about though?

In Spain even the toll roads do not make a big hole in your pocket. If you have not yet tried driving across Spain, you really are missing the pleasure of open roads that have been maintained, I so wish I could say the same of our British roads.

Will be making use of the AP-7 when leaving Javea next week.

Is it free round Barcelona?

If you have a toll tag, will that register a charge or not? Is it simply that no one is in the booth to take the dosh?

The booths are deserted white a 30 km speed limit to go through

We did 3500 miles through France and down the eastern coast of Spain and only spent €2.85 on tolls...cause I took a wrong turn.
In the summer we done 3500 miles and did not spend a penny on tolls we bid spend £1100 on fuel
bill

Well we're obviously quids in cause we only did £590 on squirt and that included a fill up in rip off britain before we shipped out.

Hi Mel,hows the new mohome holding up ?better than the pvc ?
Its lovely jubbly! :giggle: Whilst we loved the PVCs it certainly makes having to look after Romy much easier, with more space to store bedding etc, but of course we bought it for more than just that! :p

When I get back to GB I'll update on how it's performed, any issues we've had and the fettling I'll be doing to 'tweak' it to how we want it.

Has it not always been free round Barcelona, it is free round most Spanish cities and from memory it was round Barcelona though it's a few years since I was up that way.
Hope not because the tomtom always took us off the main duel carriageway and it's a right rigmarole. Mind you it wouldn't surprise me ?

Interesting to hear that the Spanish have shown the common sense that seems to be lacking elsewhere. Encouraging the use of "good" roads, is, surprising as it may seem to the "Environmentalists" beneficial to the environment!. The IC engine is at its most efficient when run at a fairly constant speed and load. The worst state is as low stop start condition.

Nice to see someone benefited from the UK`s High net contributions to the EU Budget?:giggle::giggle::giggle:

We've just driven up from Miami Platja near Tarragona today and are now at Peralada 'aire'. The sat nav, instead of the usual Barcelona route, took us inland via Manresa - it's a way we'd not been before and was lovely going through the areas between the mountains etc although we didn't have much climbing to do overall so not fuel hungry - it was very pretty and a route we'll certainly take again in the future.
