Just been watching YouTube. Some one was going on about motorhoming with out gas. With the right stuff do people on here think it's do able.
Guy was saying diesel heater. Power Bank, lithium batteries and of course solar.
Just wondering the thinking of people on here

Easy but expensive to do👍 Diesel for hot water/ heating and cooking/ Solar / batteries for fridge/freezer

Guy didn't mention cost of set up.
Wouldn't cooking with diesel give food a funny taste or stink van out?

There are some diesel units which combine both as a hob and a heater. Jerba Campervans use these in their VW Transporter conversions.

Never seen one in action but assume like a diesel heater will be externally vented to stop fumes. How it works as a hob I'm not sure.

In the YouTube vid guy used electric for cooking

Wildax can sell you a van without the need for gas as part of their Volt Pack.

Everything's do-able with an adequate budget for 'the right stuff' and depending upon what you must have.
However, I cruised the U.K and France continuously for 30 months aboard my 23' sailing boat with the only sources being a 12 battery used just for lighting (charged from its small diesel aux engine when entering or leaving an anchorage) and a 2 ring diesel hob.
Loved it.

Guess in away it boils down to how much you dislike gas. Also pay back time for savings on gas (if ever)

Okay if your happy to just drive around using diesel just to top up your batteries if your off-grid for more than a few days when it's pissing down and the sun does not shine, 300 watts of solar and 200ah lithium could well be a struggle on more than a few occasions.

Think he did mention driving 🤣

I’ve got to ask, why would you want to get rid of gas?

No I seen the vid and was wondering if it was possible. But saying that we are always on EHU so no used gas in 2yrs+

It has an induction hob for cooking, compressor fridge & diesel heater. Never going to work in the UK with only 200ah of Litium and only 300 watts of Solar.
Looking at the video their vans look really basic & crude.

Yeah but you say that about almost everything. My Banner lead acid have been absolutely fine for the last 5 years coupled with only 120w solar, no b2b and, shock horror, a pwm controller.
And guess what it works.

AFAIK, the kit is supplied by Roadpro.

But you are not using an induction hob to cook on.

As are quite a few Funster that are acquainted with his past sometimes lethal advice and mods.

Lenny HB would you be happy following Gadget John's technical advice ? :ROFLMAO:
Only to find out "how not to do something"

My set up is Wallas XC duo diesel hob/heater, microwave, Solar panel and 180ah battery with B2B charging batteries on the move along with the solar panel, no gas works for me.
When my old leisure battery goes south I will replace it with Lithium and new Solar.

In 2018 when researching what I needed in my PVC I was mindful that gas was going to get more and more expensive and hard to find and least I only have to find diesel👍🏻👍🏻

I looked into the Wallas Hob which is diesel powered and is a hob and a heater. I was put off because the hob takes quite a while to heat up. However, a couple I know have one in their van and they swear by it. They have no gas on board. If I were going gas-less, I'd have an induction hob and run it off an inverter or power bank. The only thing I use gas for is cooking, so change that and I'm suddenly not needing to worry about gas supplies etc.

Right I take it induction hobs use less electricity than normal electric hods.
Please keep this simple your talking to me Rob

There was a lady member on here promoting her van with solar etc and no gas a few weeks back as I remember i can’t recall her forum name I think it was a number🤔

I was concerned about that but each day on first switch on it takes 2 minutes to do it’s safety checks then fires up and then 3 to 4 mins to bowl a kettle and no need for the 2 min test during the day then.
