I have been in Spain for the last month on arriving back at villasol morning a man at reception said you need to change your number plates as there is a new law stating that uk vehicles can no longer have the right logo on there plate and if the police stop you it’s a 60 euro fine I’ve not been stop and have not heard of it until now has anyone else heard of it and is it true?

When you say right logo what do you mean?

It could be that the EU stars are not allowed.
And you need UK not GB

The e.u. or g.b. logo at the end of the plate must now state UK or, have a UK sticker on the rear of the moyorhome
We bought THESE for the MH

Thanks for your reply’s I have uk on mine plus the euro stars but good to know

If you just put the UK stickers on the number plate you still need a UK oval sticker for Spain, numberplate ones OK for other countries, well almost Malta requires it as well but doubt you will be going there.

I was in Gibraltar last week well parked outside and walked in we went in twice passports stamped both sides on our second visit passport checked and stamped on the way in on the way out on the Spanish side the customs women had a fit after checking our passports she said this is your second visit I said as you can see by the stamps she replied you are only allowed to visit once a month I she it’s a bit late now and why did your work mate stop us on the way in them she replied that’s the law I said sorry and did not know but now I do thank you she said just go so we did? Has anyone else had this problem?

Step back into Gib and tell her to do one! ;)

Just to make you aware if you do get a UK oval sticker make sure it is the correct size as there are a lot of smaller ones out there, it needs to be 180mm x 133mm, this is the one I've just bought (you can get them without the black border).

I didn't think we were allowed to have the EU stars displayed either, no longer being in the EU?
Interesting but my wife is Irish so still in the EU and only travels with me and often doing the driving,
So do I mask it when I drive and uncovered it when she does? It’s farcical imo,

The stars have nothing to do with the EU. They represent the Council Of Europe which was set up in 1955 and is made up of 47 countries including the U.K.

But she is in a way correct. You are not allowed to travel in over once per month without being subjected to searches to ensure you have no 'duty free allowances'

You really need to ask the question of each individual state of what the situation is for how long the UK registered vehicle is allowed to be there when being driven by the Eu driver?

I don't think the nationality of you or your wife will come into it, it will be down to where (ie what country) your MH is registered that will determine what ID it should display. AFAIK if it is UK registered you MUST cover the EU logo and replace it with one of the officially recognised ones for its registration country, either individual country (eg Scottish) or a UK one, but in Spain you still need a UK oval sticker regardless.

Providing it's registered in Eire you can leave it uncovered.:giggle:

The biggest problem is no one knows what the UK sticker is.
A few weeks ago in Spain I had an English couple who live in Spain ask where we were from, had a local woman stop look at our number plate and take a photo.
Other Motorhomers have been asked if they are from the Ukraine, there are stories of vans being stopped and searched by Spanish police because they thought they were from the Ukraine.

I'm thinking about removing the sticker before the next trip or getting a smaller technically illegal one.

Think I’ve got it covered………. :giggle:

Not heard that one, methinks she made it up.

Do I put a GB or UK sticker on the van.
I have just received my passport and on the front it says Great Britain and Northen Island

For France and most other countries it is sufficient to put small UK sticker over the GB on the blue band on the numberplate. For Spain and a few other countries you must have a big white oval UK sticker on the back of the vehicle. If you have the big UK sticker, you do not have to cover the GB on the number plate blue band. It's no longer valid, but it's not illegal. If you have the UK oval for Spain, it is valid in all other countries too. The oval GB sticker is no longer valid, but it's not illegal so you don't have to remove it if you don't want.

I have decided to make a protest and NOT be FORCED to go to the EU for, at least, the next two years, however much I want to help their economy.

I will put a line through the 12 stars, WHY only 12??, and uphold the right to have whatever I want on my number plate. SO THERE! :moon2:

"Rule Britannia, Britannia rules the waves, Britain................:LOL::LOL:

UK ... the official title is 'The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland', if you stick with GB you are 'cutting' out NI, the ONLY reason it was changed IMV was for political point scoring to make the NI population 'feel' more inclusive as obviously GB didn't 'appear' to do so, even though for donkeys years it has in people's minds.

Just about sums it all up, our Olympic team are called....Team GB, not Team UK ;)

Apparently

What's triggered the change? One word…Politics.

While no official announcement has been made, it is anticipated that the change has been implemented to show solidarity with Northern Ireland due to Brexit.

Still don’t understand?

It is quite simple (and some might even use words like ‘bureaucratic’ or ‘petty’)…

The term ‘Great Britain’ refers to England, Scotland and Wales. While the term ‘United Kingdom’, in fact, refers to each of these areas plus Northern Ireland.

By making the rule that you must display a ‘UK’ sticker, the plan is to ensure that motorists on the continent (and in the Republic of Ireland) are actually highlighting that Northern Ireland is still part of our nation.

It’s the little things that count. Right?

You can still display and purchase an EU numberplate legally and even get one for the Model Year 2022
