Well price agreed. So now just need to send deposit. Then wait. The guy is going away in it for one last trip. Away till Monday. Then the work beings he has private plates on question is how long does it take to swap to normal plates?
Then get it here then get it ready for the ferry. But one step at a time. So how long to change plates?

Yes 10 mins to change plate on line but 5 days for new V5 to arrive.

Be aware, if the vehicle has been SORN,d at any time or held by a dealer (can’t remember exact details) you cannot do it online and you have to send off V5.

I had this recently. Fortunately new V5 with revised Reg turned up the day before we did trade in.

Yep done instantly on line, hopefully he has the old plates or he will have to get some new ones for you.
Do make sure it is done before you pick up the vehicle as it is real hassle afterwards, guess how I found out.

The MOT and tax will changeover by DVLA on changing plates.
The only thing to do is tell Insurance company and there may be an admin charge of around £15.

The owner can do it on line as said whilst away.
The vehicle can then be driven on either set of plates for around two weeks.

If he doesn't have the old plates then you can get them made up from numerous places on eBay, motor factors are not supposed to make them up unless they see the V5, technically neither are online sellers but strangely enough that doesn't seem to bother them. You may find a local motor factor willing to do them without the V5 but there doesn't seem to be many of them left that make plates up anymore, well certainly not around here. Have had replacement plates made up and delivered in a couple of days online, some will even do next day delivery.

Make it the sellers problem to get the new plates, it is not as easy as it sounds, the paperwork from DVLA authorises the keeper, you will not be able to get plates made until the V5 comes back in your name

As already said, if he is used to transferring plates he may well have kept the originals, I have transferred plates around 100 times and always get the original number reallocated, only exception being if I buy brand new and put personal plate on

Although it may be illegal there are lots of number plate makers on EBay in Ireland who do “show” plates without documents and deliver next day. The plates are fully road legal when they arrive according to my road policing nephew who checked my last lot. Only reason I used them is because I am a tight Yorkshireman and they are cheaper!

I assume you will be getting an invoice/receipt from someone
This will be in the NEW/REPALCEMENT reg
Sellers issue to sort the number plates- it will be HIM who gets the DVLA authorisation to do so

Sorry-simple as that- end of
