looks and sounds like ou are going to have a great time on your travels.There is a disused railway track now for bikes just by the aire. First bike ride in 2 years - sore bums but not a bit of bright lycra here - old school! We don't go fast enough for helmets!!
Seconded we always wear ours ,it's not worth the risk ,going slowly can make things worse ,the ground is usually a lot harder than your head.Please for your safety, wear a well fitting helmet, I fell off when going that slow up a Welsh mountain and smashed my bike helmet on the dry stone wall. 8 stitches in the head wound.

Nah, you lost me there, I hope you are sampling the local wines.We can mouch along at 40 mph taking in all the views safely without any humpty up our dirt box.
