Just paid our membership to MHF. We've been to France before but not to north-west Brittany. We'll start at Roscoff and travel basically in the direction of Brest and beyond. No hurry. Six weeks to play with. Can divert in any direction and stop for a few hours or a few days or anything in between. No sites booked. Have the 'aires book' with us. Would appreciate any advice from you who have gone before. Thankyou.

Hello and welcome. Just to clarify, is it advice about North West Brittany that you are looking for or advice about motorhome touring and aires? I see that you have been to France before but don't know if that was in a motorhome or not.

Hello Dart. Yes, we have motorhomed in France before. Sorry for lack of clarity. We really wanted tips reference good places to visit in that part of France. As strangers to that part we could easily drive past areas that we should be exploring. So other peoples experiences and knowledge could make a big difference to our holiday. Thankyou.

Ok, well first of all Roscoff itself is a smashing little place and worth a wander around. If you are returning to the UK from there I'd say it's worth getting back to the port a day or so early and taking the small ferry across to the Ile de Batz, the crossing only takes about 15 mins and the island is pretty and great to walk around.
As you follow the coastline west, beyond Brignonan is a little restored hamlet called Meneham (Menez Ham in the Breton language). It operates as a folk museum now, free to enter. It doesn't take long to see it all but it has an interesting history and good rock formations and beach to walk around. There is a good paid motorhome aire with all services close to the hamlet or if you are just passing by there is free day parking.
Beyond Brest the Crozon peninsular is worth visiting and is well served by aires and camp sites. If you like that sort of thing there is an old boat's graveyard at Rostellec (cimetiere de bateaux de Rostellec) and there are standing stones near the town of Crozon (Alignments de Lagatjar).
Le Faou, which you would pass en route to the Crozon peninsular is also worth a stop. There is an excellent Camping Car Park aire by the large tidal river and the attractive old village is just a short walk across the bridge.
The whole area is great so these are just a few suggestions to be going along with.

If you go into the journals section there is a Brittany journal which may be in my signature 👇
I also did a thread which I will add here shortly of how to get 600 Aires in Brittany which will give you shed loads more than the Aires book.

Edit. I was lieing about the link in my signature.
Here it is. Blog 'West coast France, Dordogne and back' https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/journals/blog/west-coast-france-dordogne-and-back.324/

And here's your link to locate all the Aires in Brittany. Thread 'Brittany all the Aires. Loads of them' https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/brittany-all-the-aires-loads-of-them.269984/

After a bumble around the coast pick up the Nantes Brest canal. Lovely contour canal so not a straight line and loads of places to stay.

We visit Brittany regularly as the Plymouth/Roscoff ferry is our default route across the Channel.

Our routine has become fairly set these days and we tend to spend the first two or three nights at the CCP aire at Cléder which is a little west of Roscoff. This really helps us to wind down and get in the holiday spirit. There is good walking along the coast directly from the aire. :)

West of Cléder it does get a bit remote and wild in places. I can only suggest having a poke about. The Crozon Peninsula is perhaps the exception being reasonably touristy but very worth visiting.

We’ve spent loads of time floating around that area recently. A great free aire is St Thegonnec a few km along the main east west road running past Morlaix. Water tokens are free from the shops and one of the best boulangeries is a 5 min walk. The croissants are fab.

Brest itself is a bit of a hole, best place to stay is the ikea car park then take the tram to the centre for the day if you must visit it.

Just made this offer elsewhere.
I forgot I had created a map of the area.
Bung me a pm and I can send you a link to a read only version.
You can then save it on google maps and if you're really clever you can copy it to make your own map by adding and/or deleting stuff.

Hi, it is our favourite area of France.
Audierne is a great aire as it is on a tidal river port. There is a flat cycle path to lovely Pont Croix (petite cite de charactere) from the aire and you can walk into Audierne which has markets and good artisan shops/ coffee bars.
We also stop on the beach road along from St. Nic near to the sand yacht school. You can see right down the side of the Crozon peninsula.

Have a great time. Search for Sites and P4N are great as you get reviews.

Baie de Somme steam railway... It's brilliant. There's 2 different lines and the two trains race each other at one point. It's narrow guage but a proper railway.

Stayed on the aire at Audierne just for one night almost four years ago now. Lovely spot. Don't recall having to pay back then. It seemed a bit of a general car/boat park.

Camper vans for 20 years until 2020 when we bought our first motorhome
I see lots of people have responded with places to visit and sites to stay at, so I will just add a general note. We have visited Finistere every year for the last 45 years and is our favourite place in France. (Rural and provincial France, being France, hasn't changed much in that time.) The coastal scenery is often wild and rugged and spectacular. The beaches are superb, clean - no sewage! - virtually empty out of season and never crowded in August. There are cycle routes everywhere. The food is great and eating out is still cheaper than in the UK. The people are incredibly friendly on the whole (French stand-offishness is a myth, at least in our experience). Two examples: Last year I thought I had lost my hearing aids on the beach. Within minutes, lots of lovely locals were on their hands and knees looking with us, including a guy who came up with a metal detector. A few days later at a campsite in Landéda in the north west my wife lost a filling. She asked the camp site manager if there was a dentist in the (very small) town. Un instant - he was on his phone. Then, Demain matin à neuf heures? ça marche? The next morning by 10 my wife had a new filling for 65 euros (our dentist back home would have charged £125 and made her wait a fortnight). Drawbacks? Of course - the weather can be as fickle as our south coast, especially in the rugged far north west (it's not called Finistere - the End of the World - for nothing). Our rule of thumb when we arrive at Roscoff is if the forecast is for warm settled weather, we head for the north west. If it is rainy, cold and unsettled, head for the south east of Finistere where there are some great beaches and the weather and sea are always a little warmer than the north. And Concarneau market on a Saturday is a treat.

We are out in Brittany now, 3rd week of 5. Landed at Roscoff and stocked at the Red Bus as usual then headed for our first campsite at Camaret. We cycle a lot so the whole of Brittany is perfect for us. Then on to the Crozon just beyond Douarnenez then on to a Flowers Campsite at Lesconil. This is a lovely stretch of coast and if you’re in the area there’s a lovely cafe/restaurant at Kerity which is one of our favourites. Yesterday we moved on again to Camping de Pendruc just south of Concarneau and although a lot of motorhomers don’t like formal campsites this one takes some beating. €24 per night gets you an electric pitch with it’s own “shed” on the pitch which holds two compartments, one with a shower, plumbed-in toilet and sink and the other a sink and a fridge. After this we will probably head for Guerande then back to Roscoff via Josselin. We live near Falmouth but find Brittany equally pretty but much quieter and (apart from the supermarket prices) much cheaper for touring. If you are into surfing go to Pointe De La Torche , west of Penmarch for as good a surfing beach as you’ll find anywhere.

We have travelled that area many times since 1990, firstly with our caravan and latterly with our Motorhome. Lovely beaches all along the top coast including the Cote de Rose (pink granite coast). Dinan is an old town historically known for its lace making, plus Dinard another seaside town. Further down the coast is Concarneau which has an old walled part of the town and two markets every week. Further down, Vannes is a lovely city, definitely worth a visit, some of the buildings date back to the 12th century. Enjoy your trip. 🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷

I know it is in the opposite direction but Locquirec is lovely (about 35km from Roscoff) and has an excellent campsite right by the beach https://www.campinglocquirec.com/en/
Just had three days there. Would advise booking if you want beach front pitch. As it dies get quite busy. We had 139 which had unimpeded views of the beach & sea. Forgot to add if you want to eat in the camp cafe/ restaurant, book a table.

Further thanks to you for the latest info and advice and your experiences. The holiday starts now so internet access will be patchy but we feel that thanks to your inputs we have a very good base plan upon which we can add to. Cheers.
