I know that noise and particularly noise level , is hard to quantify . But we just had a new truma aircon - roof mounted , fitted on our Swift - to be honest I struggle to sleep with it on because the compressor is so noisy , when running but also when it kicks in . Hard to judge if this is normal - do we live with it or complain . Others experiences Would be good to hear please

The Truma compressor is pretty noisy, outside and in. Ww couldn't sleep with it on.
We find switching to 'Vent' at night keeps the noise down and keeps us cool enough. Our Truma Comfort blows straight onto the bed in our Carthago 138 compactline. It's worth seeking out EHU just for this when it's hot and there is no breeze.
It's currently 36 degrees where we are and there is no wind and the van has no shade. The aircon is bliss just now, but at bedtime it's on to Vent as it's forecast to only get down to 20 degrees overnight.

Ours makes a noise and you can hear when it is running but quite frankly doesn’t disturb us.

Ours shakes when the compressor fires up and shuts off … and has a pulsing hum in between … dreadful

They probably use old style reciprocating compressors, also there might be a resonance going on in the roof with it being non factory fitted.

Modern house A/Cs use rotary speed controlled compressors that start and stop gently. Actually there is a similar van AC system called Dometic Harrier 🤔
Anyway fingers crossed 🤞

We had a self build next to us in Italy with one on, kept waking us up all night, stopping and starting, what it was like inside heaven knows.

We think it’s a resonance . Someone parked next to us at Reil and theirs was fine
