Since 2011 (tugger for 20 before that)
My van (Hymer B574DL) has just passed it's MOT but the technician told me the main beam on the near side isn't working. He was going to fit a new bulb but, when he removed the headlight, he realised it was an LED. Does anyone have any idea what could cause this. I have replaced the wiring looms (twice) The second time with the upgraded wiring so I don't think it's that.

Do you know the nearside main beam was definitely working after you last changed wiring loom? Presumably, the main beam currently works on the offside light? To rule the wiring loom out, could you connect the nearside light to the offside wiring loom as a test?

If your Hymer is Ducato X290 based there could be 2 x separate 7.5 amp fuses for both the left and right main beam headlight operation in the dash fuse box.
Thanks for that. I’ll have a look.
How did it pass it’s mot ?

Baycott You may have the dreaded Hymer headlight problem the wiring looms on the headlights are made with faulty wires that have small circular cuts around them and corrode causing problems. The Hymer replacement loom prices are horrendous.

I had a similar problem and it wasn't the wiring loom. There are two relays on the offside which operate the main beam. They were installed in such a way they would allow water in. They were completely rusty, one more than the other. If that is the cause of the problem (you can easily tell by removing them) let me know and I can send you a set of new ones.

Speve How did you get on with your MOT problem in the end?
I was just wondering about it last week, when we had our MOT. I was crossing my fingers about ours, but it passed again, without comment.🙂

Seems it's not an X290 (how can I tell what it is?) so no separate fuse :crying:

I have replaced the looms using those TheBig1 supplied.

I'll check that out when the weather is a little kinder. Thanks a lot.

How did you do that second quote?

The first one correctly attributes the quote to me.

The second one does not attribute the quote to anyone, but maybe implies it was me. It wasn't.

I have no issue with either quote, but I am intrigued as to how you did it.

It can happen by accident when what you want to write the cursor inadvertently gets inside a "quote " box then starts writing there & when you attempt to delete it does but takes out the "quoted posters" name. It often happens to me & only way to correct is delete all.

Easy.... Copy whatever text from a post.
Open your own post and paste the text.
Go to the task bar above the post and look for the quote marks then click.
That quotes the text but no username.
Then simply enter whatever you want below the texts.

Thanks for that info Taran_Las for future reference would you be in a position to post a photo of the offending relays as I’m thinking I may like to protect them if possible😊🤔

I would also like to know if the relays exist on a 2022 Ducato - and if so where?

Headlights are the only thing left to fix on our bug-ridden 2022 Hymer.

If it is a FIAT base the fuses for the headlights are F13/F90 left dipped/main beam and F12/F91 right dipped/main beam all in the fusebox at the drivers right knee.

edit: meant to add is it both dipped and main failing or jut one of them?

If it's LHD the dashboard fusebox should be at the drivers left knee.

Think the X290 was introduced during 2014/15.
I pulled all the 7.5A fuses from that box and they're all fine so I'll check the relays when the weather improves.
