We have just done our first week of grid relying on solar, I have a 100w freestanding panel and I am impressed with how much power it produced even on a couple of dull days. Everything worked fine, apart from the obvious, like the microwave and toaster. I found out my cheap Chinese inverter is not up to running the blitzer so had to improvise for the BBQ marinade, but we hardly missed EHU at all. We were careful with the TV but could have used more if we had wanted.

Cost??? we were there 6 nights, assuming EHU was £3 per night = £18 we have used a fair bit more gas than we would have, I'm not sure how much but the bottle feels quiet light, and it was full at the start. Cost wise it looks like not much in it, unless the EHU is more than £3 but I'm a Yorkshireman and the idea of free electricity falling out of the sky feels very good.:dance2:

Just topped up at 58p per litre for LPG.
For the toaster, I would forget that. Microwave, we have 3 leisure batteries and 200w solar, 100w Inverter, but would only run the microwave for a burst of 2 to 3 mins max if not on ehu. (y)

At the moment we don't do enough nights away to justify more expense. That may change in future

What's your panel set up. Very interested

It's not just the £3 (normally more) for EHU. It's the fact that you can use campsites that are way cheaper because they don't even offer EHU, perhaps not even using campsites at all.

You know the saying: once beaten forever smitten; renewable energy is a wonderful and satisfying thing. I got bit by the bug few years ago. With a bit of knowledge, you will be amassed what you can achieve. Independence is priceless.

Hence the 210 litre fresh water tank on my half converted PVC!

Autogas Thirsk. :)

I don't know, it came with the van, I just plug it in
Hi Ex-Gasman. Would you be able to tell me if the controller is attached to the panel or in the van next the battery?

TIA
Cush
