I had an Elgrand people carrier for a few years that I used to carry my band around in. Absolutely loved it to bits, luxury, performance, no rust, comfort etc. Slept in it a few times at Cropredy

Never been in an elgrand, you need to get out there and try one. On getting inside a bongo i knew we needed one. I had a mazda bongo for 6 years, surpurb mobility but real small space living is not for everyone, but it can be done. Fuel consumption? Lpg conversion was popular with petrol bongos.

The Nissan Elgrand and the Toyota Alphard seem to be the vehicles chosen to convert instead of the old Mazda Bongo. They are all good vehicles but need to be sure you can get replacement items such as windscreen in case of breakage.
There are websites to check on recalls, one below for Nissan but don't know how comprehensive. it is.

One issue to be aware of was the recall of the seat belt retraction mechanism which were found to be corroding and causing the seat belt retraction to suddenly trigger. This problem wasn't only on Nissan vehicles but on most other makes as well.

Also be aware if you need an additional key they are expensive and difficult to get hold of. They work on a different frequency to the UK

There were a lot of comments on line about one of the cat convertors blocking and causing serious damage to the engine but that was only on certain models. May be worth searching online for more info on this.

I looked at the Elgrand and the Alphard a while back and actually bought an Alphard. Best vehicle I have ever driven, smooth and refined but decided not to convert because of the high fuel consumption (petrol engine).
