Just got off the phone with NFU - if I travel through France - even without stopping, then travel insurance will be void for the entire trip!

Same applies if the FCO put an advice on say Norway - if I go into the country my travel insurance will be void.

So, no eurotunnel for me - looks like a ferry to Holland as long as they haven't stopped us going there yet. That also means Sweden is a no go! Some rethinking required

Thought Holland was on the naughty list?

Aaargghh - you are right!

So, motorhome insurance is valid come what may - checked that - if there is no other route then S*D it I will go without travel insurance - its ridiculous.

Could take out a different policy I guess but not sure that would work either unless anyone has a suggestion?
Well I know that various travel insurance policies have now been updated to include a level of covid cover but I don't know specifically about MH insurance.
My suggestion is to ring the big names & see what they say - or a specialist broker... or a French broker

Have gone back to NFU to say it is unfair to void an entire trip - very much their gain against the cost of my travel insurance each year. They can exclude anything Covid related - that would be fair.

A friend of mine has got cover apparently with that exact exclusion.

Not very helpful but someone said in another thread their travel insurance was OK in all countries but excluded Corvid health problems.... Everything else covered as normal.
I said it wasn't very helpful, can't remember who posted it.

hi ceejayt

We are with NFU and checked with them before travelling, v different conversation, she stated we were covered for everywhere on the back of the policy documents even with the current Covid scenario ie through France, try again or look on the back of your policy for the countries covered.

Do you need the full travel insurance, You are going to EU countries therefor EHIC covers you for your medical treatment. You can buy a policy that covers you for repatriation but not medical cover as you have EHIC https://www.europeplus.co.uk. Have a look at this. Your present insurance maybe quoting the FCO guidance. From what I understand, the FCO does not restrict going to France and Sweden but upon your return 14 days lock up

It’s not just about health. As you say, RHIC is pretty good. But if it was something else and a repatriation - even from Surope that is expensive.
Then there is theft, personal belongings, camera, drone, bikes etc. All adds up

A lot of your personal equipment is covered by your home insurance whilst away from the premises for holidays. The company I suggested covered for theft and other requirements, it just leaves out medical cover.

I am certainly not concerned as the problem is solved so £50 policy from the Post Office

Thats it do not let anything get in your way. Don't forget to start a travel thread just so we can sit here and say" wish it was me'

I think you will find that cover is very limited. Try claiming for an electric bike on your home insurance when overseas. Think you might find it hard

The travel industry is moaning that the Government is causing all sorts of problems with the FCO advice and restrictions but I think the insurance industry is also causing difficulties by not providing cover. Perhaps the two industries should get their heads together.

hope you don’t have false hope in this £50 policy 🤔 can’t seeing them being quick to pay anything below £5K

but best of luck with the trip , we use Insure and go for both of us £60 / year, but I would only expect it to cover dire emergencies, I would expect my household policy to cover the bike presuming it is a declared item

Give Staysure a try, just done it and added FCO cover and 100 days per trip and the only one I could find to meet all my requests

I have been in touch with the same Ind comp via a broker and the actual company and both day completely different things even if you think you are covered you are probably not it is a lottery and if you are unsure then you have always got the card if that is not invalidated

We have the Nationwide flex plus account which includes travel insurance. We pay extra for an 80 day extension. I have confirmed that Covid is covered when we travel down to Spain, however there will be no cover for travel disruption or cancellation if the tickets were booked after the start of lockdown in March.
Cheers
Ed

On a slightly different tangent, we have a recurring annual policy for travel insurance and we were meant to be going to France today with DFDS. We left it until the last minute to decide not to go as our travel insurance wouldn't cover us against FCO advice (we had this in writing) but would refund us if we had to cancel & DFDS wouldn't refund. As it happens although DFDS state on their website that you can only rebook Dover to Calais/Dunkirk upto 31 December 2020 when you ring them up & speak to them (we only had to wait 10 min on the phone) they will issue you with a credit voucher (that you can use on any crossing) upto September 2021. I thought that was very reasonable of them given that I had just booked a non-refundable economy ticket.

Does anyone take out insurance for only part of their trip? ie: Oct-Dec on the EHIC card and then insurance for Jan-Mar.

Look again at the PO Travel Insurance terms. The website clearly states that there is no policy cover for travel through or to countries that the Foreign Office advises against travelling to. As has already been said, a medical repatriation is not covered by the EHIC and could be very expensive if you were unlucky enough to be involved in any incident resulting in serious injury. I have been told that HIGOS Insurance Brokers - 01458 270 320 (ask for Jade) has a policy that will provide the cover that you require. Good Luck!!!
