Hello everyone, yesterday (after much thought and searching) we took the plunge and purchased our 'new to us' motor home. We have bought a Bessacar E635 (2009) and we pick it up in 2 - 3 weeks time.
We have joined BritStop and The Caravan Club (that's how exited we are!) and I find myself searching online for tips, ideas and accessories (although I'm being restrained for now ! )
We would welcome any helpful tips /advice about insurance, essential items, in fact any advice at all for us to take on board as we take our first step into the land of the motor home.

Thank you in advance

Hi and welcome from Bedfordshire.
I think you may find insurance to be reasonable but it is still worth shopping around.
Take your time buying all the extras that are available so that you may determine what is really important for you. This may depend on how you wish to use your van. Some people will only stay on recognised club sites, this may effect your shower space which could become storage. Others may wish to be independent and need to be self sufficient and may want a solar panel to provide electricity wherever they are. Many experienced motorhomers fit refillable gas bottles like Gaslow or Alugas because other countries all use different gas bottles. Joining Britstops and Caravan Club is a good start allowing for some organised and some free camping while you decide what suits you best.
Take your time! Have a look around this site and Jim's recommended books which could answer many of your questions.
Finally when you go to collect your van, if the dealer is any good they will go over all the functions of your van. Most of this information you will need but being distracted by your new toy, you will forget. Some people record this talk on a camera, phone, tablet or by writing copious notes, this will in the long run be invaluable to your understanding of the van. You may think that you know most things but unless you have had a motorhome before, you probably don't.
Good luck, enjoy your van and never flinch from asking questions on here.

Thank you to all for your 'Welcome' and a special thank you to Alan for taking the time to write such a helpful reply - much appreciated. The dealer we have bought from has told us we can take as long as we want having our intro. session and told us some people video it. He is labelling switches etc for us and has a very detailed checklist which he introduced us to on Saturday. The dealer is based on a caravan site so we think we will stay over on our first night so we have help near by if needed!

It's so much fun reading up about motor homes and this particular site and forum is fabulous. So informative and such helpful friendly people. Exciting times ahead

Good idea to stay at the sellers campsite for a night. Then you can try everything out and go back to him with any questions.
You just have to remember to take in your car everything you'll need for a night or 2. I forgot pillows!
