Hi

We are just starting to research a motorhome. We would like something we can stand in, with a double bed & bunk beds. Kitchen table for 4. And a toilet! What do we start to look at? Thanks!

Budget....

A class most expensive.

Coach built - most common can get damp...

PVC panel Van conversion - smaller inside can rust....

I'd go coach-built you'll outgrow a pvc in no time.

Welcome from Ciren! (y)
Are bunk beds a ‘must-have’, or would two singles do……?
And, as Jamesh said, BUDGET……???

Hi.

Thanks for answers! Budget-im not sure! We are new to this! Any opinions welcome ! But at a rough guess I'd say anywhere between 10k and 20k if that's achievable 2nd hand? We hired a vw campervan during the summer so we know that was not suitable!

We are looking for compact-ish as are worried about driving it, don't want a special licence etc. I would decent storage (drove me mad in campervan) and if we need to move motorhome to go to the shop I don't want a big pack up ordeal, standing room (still have neck ache from rental) and toilet for night time trips. Seating area for eating. Not sure what kitchen I need but probably fridge, kettle, toaster, microwave would do it.(not planning on cooking much!)

Bunk beds-not overly necessary but thought it might be more space saving. We need a double for grown ups and 2 single beds or bunk beds for 5 y.o and 8 y.o.

Any model ideas that we should look for?

Thanks a million-all opinions welcome from 2 complete newbies who have no background whatsoever in this!

Well…..you’re looking at something 6m+, I think, so payload will become a factor if you haven’t got C1 on your licence. We’ve got a Majestic 155 - 7m long - but it’s only for two of us and 4 smallish dogs.
Look at the layout (on the Marquis site). (y)

In my opinion, for those requirements, even if you build it yourself, the budget is to small. Some things have to give and reach a compromise.

Welcome to the fun.

I would just start looking. You have too many questions for a recommendation.

Go round some dealers, have so fun looking and thinking and imagine you are living in the van. Once you have decided that you can start looking properly with a more firm idea in mind and what you can and can't afford.

There are plenty of motorhomes with bunk beds although its not as popular now. Older 4-6 berth Chaussons had them

I'd go for a older coach-built at the top end of your budget on the 2nd gen fiat chassis.

Tbh the key thing to look for is damp. If it's the layout you want, its dry and not too shabby them get it.

Also you will need 4 seat belts preferably in the middle of the van, I'd not want my kids on the back wall protected by alu foam ply sandwich.

Finally beware of scammers on eBay loads out there.

Cheers James

Hi and welcome👍
Layout is the most important thing. See what suits you, imagine using the van,IE try beds, loo, shower cooking a meal etc. Go visit dealers, shows etc to see what you like then use the knowledge you have gained to narrow your choice of models within your budget. Don't touch anything that is damp! Buy a damp meter for around £15/20 and take it with you 👍 Try it around all windows and doors, roof lights etc,any reading above 15 needs investigation. Did I mention layout👍😉

Watch this video about weight. Very informative 👍
