My free sat TV is 10 years old and the picture has now gone haywire. So, time for a new one. When I google 12 volt tv I am directed to tellys that sometimes ignore the 12 volt part of my search.

Which 20 inch TV would you recommend ... and do I need a free sat tuner or are they built in now?

The Cello Traveller range are quite good but the sat tuner is a pain if you change satellites regularly, I use a separate tuner.

After sending an Avtex pro back for poor picture quality I tried a Cello Traveller, which for the money (half the price of Avtex) is great value. It runs android tv so loads of connectivity possibilities.

Interesting I always thought the Avtex range was overpriced and with many features seldom used.
looking for one that will tune in whilst in France

If you are lucky enough to be able to locate your TV in direct view of the screen for those who will be watching go for the cheaper makes - otherwise best to spend the extra money and get the Avtex that you can view from any angle without the blacks becoming just a black blob. The viewing angle is very important when purchasing a TV for a motorhome / campervan.

We've used a Cello TV in many countries, always retunes easily on Freeview but as said above the viewing angle can be very poor.

Ours is pants if trying to view at even a slight angle, but face on the picture quality is good.

For a ‘bare bones’ tv (no satellite tuner or DVD player), I’ve just bought a Manta tv from Amazon - very reasonable price. If you want the Sat/dvd, give the Cello Traveller a look-see. We had an Avtex in our old ‘van (series 8 19”), but it was too small for comfortable viewing in the new ‘van, and the Avtex 24” was far too expensive for the amount of viewing we do, hence the ‘cheap-and-cheerful’ Manta - the viewing angles seem pretty good too!

We have an Avtex and also an Aldi one and without trying to be controversial the cheaper Aldi one is every bit as good in picture quality etc as the Avtex. 3 year Aldi no quibble warranty too Cost £120 which is much cheaper than our Avtex one

The standard Cello's the viewing angle is poor but the Traveller ones have a good horizontal viewing angle. Vertical angle not so good but as you always watch from the same height not a problem once you have set it up on the bracket. I put 6mm spacers on my top mountings to get the right angle.

My Avtex pro runs Apple TV, just plug the apple TV into the HDMI Port and any it goes :)

Supermarket TV.
If it has a brick in the 230v power lead it's 12v.
Some don't like being run at over 14v ( battery in charge voltage) but if it lasts the warranty it's ok if not get her money back.
Cello Travellers the bigger ones come with a 12v stabiliser.

Cost of a 12v stabiliser plus cost of TV is still far cheaper than a dedicated motorhome TV and more often than not the viewing angle is superior.
I never had a problem with any of mine and I've had a few and only one on a stabiliser only because that was an expensive one.

Hi
Be careful.
Not mant#y new tvs have scart sockets. That can complicate things. Adaptors are available but I have not tried them yet.

Why would you want a Scart socket everything has been HDMI for years.

I have not used a Scart socket on any of the TVs at home or in the motorhome for many years. Old technology replaced a long time ago. I don't think you can even buy a TV with a Scart socket now can you?

Just had a look my Cello traveller has one but I only use the HDMI. :D

Shows how different folk recommend different things. We wouldn't touch them if we got it for nothing :giggler: We had not 1 but 2 break going over bumpy roads while attached to bracket. Our falcon has been spot on so far.

Just got a Ferguson 24" which is Cello with another brand name. This has replaced a 21.6 Medion (Aldi) which is still going strong. The only reason we replaced it was we now need a satellite tuner which it has (the non-SMART version).
It has both Freeview and sat tuners and appears to have 59 different satellite "settings" pre set-up. Still got to check it doesn't overwrite sat1 when you retune to sat2 though and probably doing that today.
EPG on both terrestrial and satellite are 7\8 days and very good.
Whilst the viewing angle on the Medion is good the Ferguson appears to be better in both planes. Angles stated on the spec are very similar to Avtex.
You can get it it with or without a 12v stabilised lead. £165 for the latter which is about 40% the cost of an Avtex.
Only down side so far is, as with most TVs of this size the sound is a bit tinny but having said that it is better than the Medion and probably approaching there being no need to connect external speakers.
They do 16" to 32" 12v compatible models and link here -
Early days yet (about 10 so far!) to advise on reliability but it is, definitely, "lighter" built than the Medion.

That may be, but the original poster is replacing a 10 year old TV and possibly his separate sat tuner has a scart lead.
Forewarned is forearmed.

This sounds good do you know if it will work in France ( pick up French channels)

The spec for our model attached -
Spec's for their other models are available on the link in previous post.
Don't see any reason why it wouldn't work in France.
