I have mixed thoughts on the pre-book set up. Can't quite work out if its good or bad. First come first served just means there's the worry of turning up to find its full up but also if you can pre book and pay up front then at least you know there's an empty spot waiting on you. £15 per night seems a bit much without even getting EH.Maybe we'll use either or both later this month. Findhorn seems pricey but I guess that's what we get for having a website with pre-booking etc. which in my mind totally is un-necessary just have the French system of first come first served. As usual in the UK asking for payment for things that we don't want or need.
6m spacing for good reason. Also allows a bit of space for the outdoor bbq brigade, who love to spread out beyond their pitch to put on a show. Turning a few cooked pieces of meat into a major outdoor productionLooks great but why are we still mucking about with 6 metre spacing for MH's, we re the only country that does. It would make it a lot more achievable if it was reduced. We don't do it for houses.
And how often does this actually happen? Ive never heard of it happening on a regular aire ( where bbq's tend to be banned)6m spacing for good reason. We love these smaller community sites. The Kingsgreen Caravan site in Port William is a favourite. Good to know the money goes back into the village. We stayed at Findhorn last week.
It was right on the beach, had bins, drive over dump, cassette emptying and water, spacious level pitches and was spotless. Well worth the £15 which incidentally goes straight back to the community who run the aire.
The online booking was a doddle and really easy. We will use places like this all the time if we can. A site cost us £28 for no electric pitch the same week.
I know price is a factor for many but it’s £15 for your own secure parking on the beach with all services available.
The local duty Warden who was a volunteer popped round when we were there and was nothing but supportive of motorhomes.
Compare that to last nights stop at Innerleithen of Forestry Scotland. It’s £8 to stay with nothing here at all, not even a bin in sight.
It may not suit some but I will happily give a local community £15 for providing us with a great place to stay.
Yes we have a spare night before Fort William on the way up so we planned either the Kelpies or the Wheel. Is it best to get there towards the evening so the day trippers have left some room? How about The Kelpies, its only £5 to park overnight.
We went mid day and got in fine. There were a few spaces but the far end was busy with motorhomes. I think most day trippers use the top car park. We use the bottom to overnight.Yes we have a spare night before Fort William on the way up so we planned either the Kelpies or the Wheel. We stayed there for the first time last week. Really good site, well run, and friendly. Approach roads a bit neat, and took the option of the n/side mirror in the hedge, rather than the HGV over the white line coming the other way on A747!We love these smaller community sites.
