Has there been a change to the Astra satellites over the winter?

We have arrived back at our static in S. Brittany and nothing at all from the system which was working perfectly last September.

I believe it is now Astra 2 E, F &G none of which are listed in the decoder which is 12 years old, only A, B &D which I presume it was picking up last year.

more than likely your dish has been knocked out of alignment or there is a connection problem .
if your decoder was working last September it should still be receiving some channels

If you have Apple devices download an app called dish align it will help you to reset you dish if it’s got moved.
Also check your cables

Done lots of re alignment changed the LNB, not a twitch on the signal, two different de coders and no signal on either :(

Your in Brittany so a 70cm dish will easily suffice
Is there something that is blocking the signal

Yes, no problem for the last 13 years, moved the dish a couple of years ago because the b***y trees grew in the way but clear access to 28.2 Deg E now

May sound daft but try changing the connections over ...

if you have a multi meter check for voltage at the lnb end of the F connector. should have between 9 and 13v ish.

I had Astra at 28.2E for the last 4 months all over France for Freesat so these satellites haven't moved

Astra 2 A,B&D were all in the same position, the dish is aligned, 2 cables, 2 de coders, changed LNB. My original question was have the satellites changed over the winter.

I will try that but have changed the LNB so unlikely that 2 are defective.

i agree not the lnb but sounds as if there is no signal voltage to the lnb from the decoder, so if the decoder is ok then it can only be the cable or connections.

sats have not changed positions.

PS particularly as you say "not a twitch " out of things.

The sats positions have not changed but have they changed from A B & D to E,F&G?
2 de coders, 2 cables so unlikely that both have failed simultaneously.

as far as i am aware nothing has changes in the past several months in any way.

In your position i would disregard all i have done / checked ; and i would start from scratch setting everything up. including checking the sat finder i was using.

i think thats the only way you are going to know whats up for sure.

I am in France at the moment the first time in our Hymer and tried our Oyster and Avtec TV but all I can get is a handful of German channels? It says Astra 2 28.2E and Transponder 10758 V 22000. Can anyone help with any ideas how I can get other channels i.e. English ones. The German channels are crisp and clear so all is working OK just can't get other channels even after Autosearch it just says No Information.

do you normally get UK channels on those Transponder settings? and you dont say how far south you are or how big your dish is.

Hi Phil

We have a large dish and had similar problems in the UK (we haven't had the MH long) so I sent the box back to get the software and firmware updated and with lockdown haven't been anywhere but just travelled over to France this week. If I should be using a different setting on transponder I could try another one but didn't want to fiddle and mess it up.

We are down near Limoges

You can change the LNB as many times as you want..... If there's no voltage on the coax it won't work.

I find it unlikely that two decoders and two separate cables would fail at the same time.

Have you manually put in the satellite positions from Google to see if your system can see them?

No, that is beyond my technical capabilities

One decoder has now locked in the initial set up mode and won't budge, the other does not have Astra 2 E, F & G in it's satellite list and I can see no way of adding them.

The Astra satellites changed their frequencies in late September/October last year.
We had the same issue so searched our dish manufacturers website, found the update for our model of dish, downloaded the file (plus instructions) and attempted to reprogram our system. We were in Portugal so had to buy a lead to connect the laptop to Sat Decoder.
The whole process should take just a few minutes but, sod's law, our system has a non-standard build so required re-programming by the original supplier/installer.
Visited installer during our return journey and everything is now tickety boo, all Astra satellites now back where they should be.
Hope this helps.

By getting German channels, that means your dish is aligned to Astra 1 at 19 east, and not Astra 2 at 28 east which is the UK TV group of satellites.

Astra 2a, b, d and Eurobird 1 satellites for UK TV were replaced around 2012-2014 by new satellites 2e, 2f and 2g.
It will make no difference if the names on your decoder are different, as it is all to do with the frequencies that sit behind those names that are the important things.
You can label the satellite "fred" for all the receiver cares...it will still scan the frequencies that it has for that satellite name, and only pick up the channels that the dish is aligned to.

Thanks for that, it is what I suspected.

I understand now but still leaves me with the problem of amending the frequencies in the decoder, is there a simple way of doing this?
