Caught up with the Spanish news today and the often speculated about topic of future road charging was confirmed in the Murcia News HERE not too much detail unfortunately nor whether it is all roads or just motorways eventually. At first it appears to be like a vignette for high speed roads, whatever they might be, and then a change to 1c per 1km travelled. I can see lots of problems here for the future

Is this nationwide, a proposal, motorways only? Any more data welcome. As the distance to Portugal from the French border is over 700km = 700cents or £60

Yep it's here too

I thought there were 100 cents to the Euro? = €7

Think you’ll find that’s only £7🤔

As of this morning €7 or 700 cents is £5.9977
Surely the cost for all roads and their toll booths etc would be prohibitive. It'll be major motorways first i reckon.

the most annoying thing is its becoming so complicated to travel Europe for me.
Its not the cost of the actual tolls, fees e.t.c. its the thought having to learn and understand all the rules, regulations its swamped in now a days so as not to fall foul (despite trying otherwise) and being hit with huge fines (which I swear the cynical side of me thinks is the aim anyway).

I've not been off this rock (UK) for decades, last time I went I just packed one mahoosive suitcase, full of anything i wanted (including now lethal showergel), showed a passport and that was it.
Its daunting now thinking of all the things I need to learn and comply with in order to go there in a motorhome. Where to even start?! Tolls, vehicle requirements, insurance, pet passports, Covid requirements, roaming data, e.t.c .e.t.c. e.t.c. The list seems almost endless.

If Andy Pandy the legend in his own lunchtime in Manchester get his way it will cost me £10.00 to get home in my car and Moho. I think we pay enough tax on our vehicles as it is.

Not much different to being in the UK. Wear a mask in Wales, optional in England, Pubs open on Sundays some places, need a vaccine passport here but maybe not there etc

Don't be surprised when road pricing comes to the UK. A lot of revenue comes from fuel duty, which will disappear as combustion engines are phased out. The same 'black box' things that get used by some insurance companies will be used to charge you for miles driven.

You have to remember that these roads all exist.there are now no loans for building them to be repaid.
We have a toll road here( still tolled) from Vera to Cartegena 113 km bt the 16kms around Cartegena are free. We wo't go in to why it was built but the reason is now long gone & will never reappear. It is known as the "Ghost highway" due to high charges & lack of use.
It was built with a starting figre of 7,000 vehicles / day rising to 30,000+/day once the building along the coast was started.
When they were begging for money , from 2009 onwards, to keep themselves from going bankrupt & it all reverting to the state they actually stated that the daily running cost of the 97kms,including electricity, repair, wages & taxes amounted to the total sum of 1,970€ .
Yes that is less than 2k/day.
So all that was needed was 164 vehicles per day over the whole stretch to cover the running costs. So even at the lowest point of vehicular usage, 2800/day, they were well on the way to excessive profits. Once you take out the construction cost it is a licence to print money.

So where can i buy shares in these operating companies? :giggle: :giggle:

I don't mind paying tolls as long as the roads are smooth and help us get to places quicker. What I don't like is a bleeding toll booth every 3kms in some places. That's just ridiculous.
