12 years motorhoming, a lifetime of living
we have ventured into the ownership of a carthago, a 2018 chic c line l 58xl suit to give its full title, very pleased so far, but so differant to our autorails we have previosly, so I may be in here asking stupid newbie type questions later....

but the first one is, its got a satilte (oyster) with internet (im not going to use that) so some I'll probibly rip out the gubbins (more on that later) but todays question is, what this on the roof, the oblong thing in front of the sog exhast? could it be to do with the preeviosly mentioned satalite internet?

oh another question, the lnb is a twin one , one output

for tv one for internet, the cables into the van "look" differant, could I use both for tv or would I have change the lnb

Scout CONGRATULATIONS Phil & Andrea. (y)

What did you go for Phil? Was it that Carthago you were enquiring about insurance for?

Whatever it is, have many happy years touring in it. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)
you have a pm Jock
Oblong box on roof could be the upper external fridge vent.

Well done Phil & Andrea. (y)

As it is close to the SOG exhaust, could it be an extractor for the toilet/shower room area?

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Ill investagate both thanks, it is directly above the fridge mind, I didnt realise they did roof exhasts for fridges, theres also a proper cooker under the fridge (factory fitted) so I suppose it could be for that , every day is a school day....

ok next question

on the left there is a button with auto on it, and 3 dirrectioinal switchs with arrows on, whats that for, ?

and lastly for today, this rubbe mat is soft to the foot, it got a sort squishy backing to it, it covers some wires, should it be so squishy

nearly forgot, can the step be linked to the door remote?

IE unlock step comes out. lock step goes in ? do you have to switch it manualy all the time?

(Ive found the drivers switch for the step )

the stuff on the lower shelf is for the satalite internet, I havnt got a "scooby do" how that works, I expect it would be expensive to have a satalite internet provider and using 4g would be as good ?, it looks expensive kit?

The oblong on the roof is indeed the roof vent for the fridge, we have a Carthago C-Compactline (the skinny A-class version) and have similar on our roof.

Looks like you might have auto air conditioning/climate control, the arrows show where it will be directed to, eg windscreen, cabin (face vents), or floor or a mixture of them.

Yes it is usually squishy, has been on every Fiat based modern PVC and MH we've had, don't worry about it.

Not that I'm aware of.

Yup.

Well done! :giggle:

The 3 directional switches allow you to direct all of the air to the demisters on the windscreen (up), the face vents (right) or the footwell (down).

As Minxy Girl has said yes it is always soft under foot. If you turn all of the turnbuckles you can lift it up to reveal the engine battery.

Nope it's not the engine battery one that's under the nearside (UK) footwell, this is the one between the seats which houses a filter I think (its a while since I looked!).

On our last 2 PVCs I took the cover off and put some timber/polystyrene pieces under it to support the cover so no more squishing.

Well I only have one on my 2015 Fiat X290 based motorhome, and it covers part of the passenger's footwell and the area between the seats. Not just contains the battery but also gives access to the airbag ECU amongst other things. Not seen a filter though.

If you look at the picture you can see it's between the seats - the hab floor is in view - maybe as you have an 'A' class it is different, I can't go have a shuftie at mine as it's now at the dealer for its warranty/hab check.

In this image off the web you can see the battery compartment top left and the smaller filter cover between the seats, it's the latter one we're tlaking about:

Nice one Phil. (y).
We've got the same van, which we've had for 3 years now. Added a few goodies and is probably the best van we've had and would be hard to improve upon or replace. Enjoy.

Nope, not on my Hymer. On mine the timber floor between the seats extends all the way to the front of the seat base.

Edit. Looking at that photo is appears to be a Fiat X250. Either that or they have taken out the central cup holder and replaced it with the glovebox off an X250

That is one thing that bugs me about Carthago's it's all squishy when you walk on it, everything else about them is pretty good.

we have just been deep cleaning it, not that it needed it as we could not find can any dust anywhere, the dealers did a fantastic prep job all the fitting seem to work very nicly , I think its better than our house .....

The central bit on both X290 and X250 can have either the cup holder or the glove box ... I changed the cupholder on our X290 Campscout for a glove box from an X250.

Some of us like 'squishy' bits ... :tounge:

The panel between the seats gives access to the top of the fuel tank to allow maintenance of the fuel pump and fuel level sensor. Helpfully Hymer tend to cover it with a wooden panel:-)

Carthago have glove box, Hymer have the cup holder. Optional from Fiat.
You can buy either for an X290 and change if you don't like what you have.

We were going to change our cup holder for a glove box but got used to the cup holder and prefer it now, stops us storing junk.

We hated the cup holder as it got in the way, it's also where Lily's dog bed goes for travel and I don't think Lily would appreciate having to 'duck' all the time so was something that was earmarked for being changed before we even collected it from the dealer. :giggle: I did get a bit 'stuck' between the seats though when doing the swap as it wasn't the easiest place to get in/out of.
