I’m thinking of getting new van , just wondering about service costs and can I have it done elsewhere rather than supplying stealer ,sorry mean dealer

It’s your van, you can have it serviced where you like. But it may effect the warranty.

How exciting, what are you thinking of getting?

I think the warranty thing depends on the brand. We were told that we could take our Carthago to any offical Carthago dealer for warranty work, but we haven't tested this theory yet!

The Carthago UK Owners Club says you will probably need to get warranty work done by your supplying dealer. My understanding is that other authorised agents can do work without invalidating the warranty but are often reluctant to do so because it can leave them out of pocket. I spoke to a service agent with Carthago (and other makes) authorisation/training who said they would happily do such work but they would look to the customer to make up the difference between their hourly rate and what they would recover from the manufacturer.

The impression I got was that the supplying dealer does not expect to make a profit on warranty work, having profited from the sale. However, other dealers and agents need to make a profit on work that ties up their staff and workshops.
