I got this today by email direct from gov. Uk as I’d signed up for brexit updates

Prepare to drive in the EU after Brexit

What all drivers from the UK may need to do to drive in the EU and EEA when the UK leaves the EU on 29 March 2019.

4:53pm, 21 March 2019: Clarification that if you are travelling in the EU and EEA with a UK registered caravan or trailer, you will need two Green Cards: one for the towing vehicle, and one for the caravan or trailer

Does this site know something we don't, it says we're leaving the EU on the 29th of March?

Unfortunately it’s ALL domestic trailers. Commercial trailers will have to comply with a new registration scheme but I didn’t copy that as it’s not relevant to our group. The text is direct from government advice issued late last night on gov. Uk

Yes, we were leaving the EU on 29th March at 4.53 pm on the 21 March when this was writtten. The EU made their offer of an extension some hours after this. It will likely change again soon.

Any mention of UK vehicles displaying the EU flag on number plates after U.K. is no longer a member? That could represent significant opportunities for topping up the gendarmes wine funds.

Guess you could always look on the link posted above :), however from that link:

Following the UK’s exit from the EU, it is recommended that you display a GB sticker on the rear of your vehicle, irrespective of whether you currently have a number plate which includes the GB identifier.

It only applies to trailers over 3500Kg unless used commercially. Does anyone tow over 3500Kg for leisure use?

You need to be careful that you're not mixing things up. You're correct concerning registration of a trailer but not a green card for caravan or trailer. From the link above and as you can read it does not mention +3.5t:

"Some EU and EEA countries may also require a separate Green Card as proof of insurance for caravans and trailers. If you are travelling with a caravan or trailer, you will need two Green Cards: one for the towing vehicle, and one for the caravan or trailer."

My comment was only intended for registration although i suspect that identifying a trailer so that it could be given a Green Card would be difficult without registration so it's possible the GC only applies to registered trailers?
