New disabled parking badge - a problem?

What EU benefit has been lost in this case ?
In case you didn’t read the link he posted, I have copied the relevant passage
for you.
It has caused concern among disabled drivers who fear their blue badges will no longer be accepted in the EU because of the absence of the stars, which demonstrate the car driver has EU rights. The Department for Transport has refused to say when it removed the stars, who took the decision or why it was deemed appropriate.

My mothers badge is OK to use in Australia , thats not in EU , and Jersey (not in EU ) , and in NZ you show them your UK badge and they give you a local one . California allow UK badge to be used . So in all probability it will stay the same with EU countries , and I would think reciprocated :) .

Your italics deserve further explanation.

The reason for refusal to explain the situation was given as it not being allowed for Civil Servants to make statements on political matters during the Purdah period of a general election. Therefore the DofT refused to answer the query.

Exactly! More fake hysteria! Why on earth wouldn't the scheme be reciprocal, as virtually everything will be with little or no hassle!!

You've far more chance of a disability pension in Spain than ever getting a blue badge. In fact Thinking about it I can honestly state that I have only ever seen one spaniard with a blue badge in 18 years . The majority of cars with spanish plates parked in disabled bays, especially at Alicante airport are Brits illegally using a UK one .

I think the point is that people using the blue badge scheme may lose the ability to benefit from their blue badges within the EU in the future.
i doubt the UK Government know how the scheme will work after the UK leaves, it will depend on any reciprocal agreements from other EU members.
But, it’s another example of the governments inability to properly plan. This should have been sorted out months ago and the Civil Service should be able to comment on how it will work without infringing any Purdah rules.
the fact that they wont comment probably means it hasn’t even been considered yet.

Correct! Referendum done, we should have been out, these things wouldn't be conjecture, the new rules would be in place and working!

Bloody labour party has so much to answer for, and they will get the backlash in a couple of weeks! Jeremy Who?

It's simple .... we don't want you over here anymore ... and if you do come .... you're not getting our benefits when you're so eager to protect all of yours against all comers ..... so there ..... nah nah nah nah nah. Brexit comes with inconveniences

Don’t know why people are surprised. It was just one in a long line of benefits of being in the EU.
Others have a lot more to lose than free parking!
And much more to gain by being out. The blue badge scheme is world wide and had sod all to being a member of the EU

The blue badge scheme is used in many countries throughout the world, as you say, however the UK blue badge scheme (also known as the European Parking Badge Scheme) was introduced in April 2000 to help people who have severe difficulty walking by improving accessibility.

It is an EU scheme.

You got proof of the illegal use. Or just guessing

Free parking if that’s you’re thought then you better get back under the quilt. It’s a case of easier access for the disabled. Hope you don’t have to go there

.Same is true in France, our local Leclerc Hyper Market has eight 'Disabled' parking places near to each of it's main entrance doors, the vast majority of the time the spaces are empty. When they are occupied you can 'bet your bottom dollar' one of the cars will be a 'RHD' on local French plates and or UK registered.

Compare 16 Parking Places with the rows of 'Disabled Parking' at your average TESCO et al in the UK and you have to ask yourself what is the cause that makes so many people in the UK require a 'Blue Badge'. In reply to Cheshirecat57, I can confirm from my observations, that the illegal use of out of date UK issued 'Blue Badges' is not unheard of in the Charente, and no doubt elsewhere. I'm nosey because of once over-hearing an elderly french couple remark on the fact that there were three 'disabled Anglais' parked in a row. I'm 73 by the way.

When my wife returned her late mothers 'Blue Badge' to the Council, seldom used as meant to be as all the 'Disabled' spaces were always full, the woman was surprised as they don't get many returned!

LOL Their not!

France a place with free parking en route to your holiday :giggler:

To be honest, I cant think of a single reason why Blue badge holders think they are entitled to park for free. What is the link with needing a badge.

Ahh i see the "b****t Cult" is alive and well...........:reel:
