Newbie ish...
Under the new rules, all passengers flying into Portugal will have to show a negative test before boarding and airlines will face a fine of €20,000 per passenger for failing to check.

Vaccine certificates will be obligatory for entry into hotels, restaurants, gyms and cultural events; masks will again be required for indoor public spaces; visitors to care homes, hospitals, bars, dance halls and big sports and cultural events will have to show negative tests.

For a “containment week” starting January 2, tele-work will be obligatory, bars closed and school holidays extended to prevent a post-holiday season spread, Costa said.

With over 87 percent of its population vaccinated, Portugal’s infection rates are well below countries in northern and eastern worst hit by the current pandemic resurgence

From December 1st

  • Mandatory negative test for all flights arriving in Portugal, even for those who have a digital vaccination certificate, regardless of the point of origin of the flight or the passenger's nationality.
  • This measure applies to air, land, sea and river borders

Be interesting to see how they are going to police that on the only land border with Portugal from Spain
This should help...

Other changes from 1 December, when a “state of calamity” will be declared for the country, include all people going to nightclubs and bars having to present a negative test result,

Don't see how that will affect border crossings.
I do not go to nightclubs and I can live without my occasional visits to bars and I am already in Portugal.

I was just guessing that most visitors that cross the border into Portugal would participate in a few,but what do I know, maybe they're all like yourself, but as you state your already there, so it doesn't effect you...but it does me as I'll be crossing the Border on the 5th Dec, and I do participate in a few...

I can see how it might affect visitors, I haven't read the new rules yet but we have put up with over 18 months of various restrictions so will just adapt as we all must.

Two weeks ago, flew into Porto... no one was interested in Covid passport, vaccination certification or test results.
My personal observation was mask wearing was mentioned but not really enforced, except in a couple of locations.
Surprised me.

Canute is an inspiration to all politicians it seems, Gibraltar is a fine example for vaccination and outcomes, then watch for many more changes in the virus to come.
Whistle into the wind and Criss your fingers, is as good a strategy me thinks.

They did it before the EU,,BUSBY.

Don't see how that is relevant, lots of things happened before the EU or Schengen which is more relevant when talking about open borders.
They did last Winter, when they shut the border, so we had to stay in the Malaga Province...

Yes they did, completely closed apart from special circumstances but at the moment they are talking about checking for negative tests. Possible but not easy even if they close most of the smaller crossing points.

If they could have border checks pre EU,,what is there to stop them doing it again?.Its not rocket science..BUSBY

No it isn't but the infrastructure nor the manpower is there now, everything is possible at a price.

This article may explain the position but is a little ambiguous regarding internal Schengen area borders and the need for tests as well as EU covid vaccination certificates.

Not bars, only nightclubs😜
It's not what the Man said...

Well, to clarify! From your link posted above, it says clubs.
I’ve now looked up the actual decree law and that says clubs and bars. So in that respect, you are correct.

However, there are actually very few bars in Portugal, as 99% of them offer food of some sort, which is how they all managed to stay open last time, so for the week mentioned in January, most places will stay open, even if they only offer a tosta mista! 👍🍺
Where I live in Alvor on the Algarve, I can’t think of anywhere that is purely a bar!
I guess the wording will be scrutinised in the next few days🤦‍♂️

…..all is not lost🤣

New Corvid rules? What have they got against jackdaws, rooks and ravens?
Congratulations you win the Coconut for spotting the deliberate Mistake ;)

It dont say a lot about all the others responders :ROFLMAO:

Spain just announced new measures as from December 1st to restrict Covid spread...entry restrictions for visitors.... Doubled jabs are a must.
Looks like the winter spread is about to start again....

‼️ When travelling to Spain from UK, only the full vaccination certificate will be accepted on entry ‼️

From 1st December 2021, Spain will ONLY allow the entry of people from the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland if they have ✅ proof of full vaccination certificate and will NOT be permitted with ❌ negative diagnostic tests for covid or ❌ having just overcome the illness, as was admitted up until now.

In force from 1st December until midnight 31st December.

Official decree released today: https://www.boe.es/boe/dias/2021/11/27/pdfs/BOE-A-2021-19608.pdf

Newby visitor to Portugal here. We'll be taking the roller coaster to Santander then driving into Portugal. With the new rules from 1/12 are there only certain places where you will be able to cross the border? Also, can we use ltf tests we take with us and email for results does anyone know, or will we have to test in Spain?
Was looking forward to this trip but hey ho.
Thanks

You haven't advised of your sailing date....but please be aware that as you are arriving into Santander, the new Spanish restrictions come into force on December 1st too.....I and others have posted on this forum what you need to know and need to show...cannot offer anything about Portugal restrictions other than what's posted on Fun.

I knew we should have given more vaccines to the less developed countries instead of setting them up as virus mutation farms . . . . still, I'm alright so bad luck anyone who isn't . . . .
