Just returned today from month-long tour of La France.
Concerned about the possible border issues, we turned up at Calais Eurotunnel at 0955 this morning for the 1220 train.
No queue at front gate and got 1120 boarding. Loitered in car park for 5 mins then decided to go through (maybe a little early...).
Some confusing barrier swerving needed as they keep changing layout to increase queueing capability (felt like a DVLA road test). Just one car ahead of us at French border patrol. The dogs were sniffing excitedly at one pick-up truck in the car queue. We were waved straight through once PP stamped. No queue at UK border; just quick look at PP. The chap said he could see we had uploaded all required COVID docs.
Nobody even asked us about the gas being off.
We drove straight through the traffic light lanes and were last to board the 1020. 2 hours early. Train less than half full.
So, all in all, 25 mins from front gate to train departure. Probably our record.
While we were in France, we prob saw total of 10 Brits. Best time to go I reckon. They have far fewer COVID cases than we do. Still a lot of French tourers in their vans, talking loudly to each other as usual.
