A1 last night on the way back from Malvern. watch from 1min30sec 9.01 real time
I hit the full beams so washed out the numberplate, does anyone have software to enhance the plate to get the reg, as I will then take it to the police. Excuse the F word and the spotify music

It looked to me like you was half expecting that going by your quick reaction. What a dipstick for pulling out like that. I think as motorhomers, we do come to expect the worse from car drivers, as they are always trying to nip out before us, hence why you seemed ready and on high alert. That could have been alot worse, and he does need reporting imo.

ps.. the music was crap mate. :D

Looked to me like you flashed him out:cool::Eeek:

Take it anyway. Police have the technology to see the number.

I slowed for the car pulling off first then saw one pulling out on the sliproad, the third one was the one which pulled out

If you look at the video he had pulled out as I put the beams on and the horn.

Was that on the A1 near Doncaster ? Those garages are notorious for lunatics pulling straight out of them. That whole stretch of road until it nears Leeds and becomes wider is a playground for the worst drivers in the Country.

that would grab your attention

The idiot didn’t even try to use the slip lane to accelerate, just straight out onto the main carriageway. Neither did the car in front, they both just pulled straight out onto the main carriageway ignoring the good length of slip lane provided. Perhaps one was following the other, the stupid leading the even more stupid?

Nothing wrong with the music ! Woodstock generation !

As I found out recently, you can submit dashcam footage to the police, but each force is different. Cheshire certainly don't make it easy! I eventually found a dashcam submission page on their site. I had to edit the clip down small enough to be able to upload it, I had to state that I hadn't put the clip up on social media, I had to fill in a loooong witness statement form that's a Word document. And finally, it had to be done within 72 hours of the incident.

Did anything come of submitting the footage ?

No. Because the incident happened when I was going away for a long weekend. By the time I got home and back to my PC to be able to submit the footage, the 72 hours had passed. They weren't interested.

I think the camera may be a little too far away from the windscreen - it seems to be focussed on a very short distance in front (the dash is in focus but everything in front of the van isn't).

At least the OP was paying attention to the road in front and didn't have a tailgater.

May be challenging to get the camera closer to the screen as the mounting would obstruct the internal blind system.

I've only got a couple of <£50 dashcams, but they've got tiny optical sensors. It means anything over about 30cm away is 'infinity' as far as the optics are concerned, so they are all fixed focus. Moving it wouldn't make a difference.

I'm happy with the dashcam quality, it was at night and would have been good enough for the police and my insurance had I hit the car. The kenwood software is also very good

I`ve had that happen, several times in fact, One tried it in front of my Truck even!. The one who attempted it in front of the R-V got a shock, FOUR Hadley air horns, half of Derbyshire must have heard!. Had I hit him he was dead. Mass ratio of about 7 to 1.

I can see with that forecourt layout that many drivers would be stupid enough to pull straight onto the carriageway, maybe the exit from the garage needs to be changed to force people to use the slip lane to increase speed before entering the main road. I know it shouldn't be required but these days with so many distractions planners should allow for the numpties.

I had a similar experience on The A303 heading south with a lady in a white BMW, she pulled out of a BP garage straight onto the inner lane of the dual carriageway in front of me, and did not accelerate, so I like you had to slam on brakes and press the horn.
Luckily it was daylight on a dry road.
PS: The van was new, first trip out, so that was the first time I had pressed the Fiat Horn, that was an instant disappointment, I am not sure to this day that it startled her, or even if she heard it.

I didnt have a dash cam either.

At least we are all safe, and were alert enough to take action, if we were driving an HGV artic then it may well have ended differently.

I do have to say its my first real emergency braking situation in the van and it slowed without excessive front end dip. I think the air suspension helped a lot.

The Fiat Horn is much louder than the pathetic "excuse me for interrupting you" little peep from my previous VW camper.

I would still prefer a good pair of airhorns. Maybe a future mod.
