Good evening oh knowledgable ones, thinking of doing the NC 500 22july to 4 August is it worth booking sites ahead or just doing it on spec. Suppose booking ahead would be a problem if we found somewhere nice and wanted to stay longer.
TIA Keith.

We did most of it last year on almost exactly the same dates as you. We didn’t book and didn’t have a problem.

It’s lovely. Have a great trip.

We did it and wild camp every night except 1 when we stayed at sango sands right on the top coast well worth staying there for a night the beach is amazing

We're doing it in September. The need to have somewhere for the hairdryer means we have a booked itinary ?

We did NC500 without booking, staying on only three sites: no problem a few years ago. However we did the Outer Hebrides this year and the few sites we called at said they had been very busy during school holidays, often full.

It depends on your attitude to wild camping and your needs for resources.

Gordon

We are doing this in September, anti clockwise direction. Shouldn’t meet up with the dreaded miges then. No booking for us. Hope to see some Funsters enroute.
Phil
That's the best way to do it, then the west coast comes later. I always believe in saving the best for last!

Why bother with sites ? It is a busy time of the year but plenty of places to park overnight.

BBC Scotland news has warned of a terrible upcoming spell for midges so be prepared.

Sango reception doesn’t open until 4 o clock, then every one rolls in and there’s no guarantee of space, try to get there early afternoon, pick your pitch and set up then go and pay for it, at 4 but there were a hell of a lot of prebooked reserved pitch markers when we were up there in May.

If you can't get in at sango sands carry on a bit further and I think there was a nice wild spot not too far on near a zip wire if I remember correctly

we did it a few years ago with car and caravan got some great photos watch out fror the clowns in landrovers both on the road and in the sites worse than the midges, most off the stes are quite basic enjoy

w watch out fror the clowns in landrovers both on the road and in the sites worse than the midges,

We didn't have any issues with Land Rovers... not sure why you would to be honest. However, what we did have issues with was rental motorhomes, of which there are plenty.

A lot of the rental van drivers are young and foreign... nothing wrong with either except that they get into a larger vehicle than they're probably used to and are driving on a different side of the road than they're used to. The combination of the two elements is not good. We had a couple of times when we were forced off the road by oncoming rentals heading at speed way over the white central line. They're a PITA and something to be aware of.
