Over the last few weeks there has been discussions re the Nationwide breakdown service. Several members have stated they will NOT cover you if your MH is over 3.5.

I have recently had a conversation with NW and they state that YOU are covered if over 3.5.

Part of their main exclusions or limitations read as follows.

Vehicles must not exceed any of the following dimensions .

1. MAXIMUM VEHICLE WEIGHT: 3.5 TONNES (3.500kg) GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT.

2. MAXIMUM VEHICLE WEIGHT FOR MOTORHOMES ONLY: 7.5 TONNES GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT.

3. MAXIMUM VEHICLE WIDTH 2.55m (8’3”) WHICH CONSTITUTES THE OVERALL WIDTH OFTHE VEHICLE BODYWORK EXCLUDING MIRRORS, MEASURED AT THE WIDEST POINTS.

4. MAXIMUM VEHICLE LENGTH (IN EUROPE ONLY): 8M (23ft)

See this is why there's confusion.
You say in one breath you're covered if over 3.5t and in the next max weight is 3.5t

No confusion.

If you have a motorhome over 3.5 t you have cover.

If it's anything else over 3.5 t, eg a large horsebox, you do not.

What exactly is confusing about,

Your at it again!🙄

At what?

I am merely saying I don't think it's confusing and questioning why it's been found as such. As others have done.

Why have you suddenly felt the need to pick my posts up and criticise them?

Don't see the problem. It's on page 8 of the Policy booklet and it's as clear as day. (to me) Just need to read all bullet points and not stop at the first one!

Something else about Nationwide. I struggled to find cheap breakdown cover for my cars because of their age. 14 years and 21 years. Lots of companies stop at 10. Nationwide will cover anything I drive (and the wife too) - no age limits. This Nationwide stuff is almost too good to be true!

(hope no one contradicts me now! )

I agree. I posted previously how the AA recovery service questioned and initially refused my recovery in Spain because I was over 3.5 ton. This was despite my new vehicle recovery agreement with Ford. I have since set up a Nationwide account to get the benefits that others have claimed for vehicles over 3.5 ton. But I still wonder why the AA have different terms with Nationwide compared with Ford for pretty standard UK motorhomes. I hope I won't ever have to test the Nationwide cover in anger. The rather obstructive AA call agent I dealt with in my Ford-related call added a lot of fuel to an already stressful situation.

I thought I was been helpful as there seemed some confusion. I think most of the replies puts things right.
Yes, you are being very helpful. And yes there is still some confusion. I am simply questioning the written words in insurance agreements and the actual actions of the AA in recovery situations. I am paying my Nationwide subscription because (based upon advice from others) I believe it gives me cover for my +3.5 ton Moho and will not leave me arguing with the AA call agent on the roadside about the agreement they have with Ford or any other company. I will be more relaxed when I hear from others that their Nationwide agreement has been fully honoured when a breakdown has actually occurred and they are plated at + 3.5 ton. I simply don't get why the AA would say to Ford that they will not honour their agreement if the Vehicle is +3.5 ton. The plate on most new Ford-based conversions says 3,550kg before the converter down-plates it.

Understand all of that, but as I recall, unless it's been changed there is a problem with re patriation on the NW insurance cover (if you need it).

Is this still the case?

I have a NW joint account which includes breakdown.
Do you get an AA Breakdown credit type card as proof of membership?

No. I have a N'wide card with contact numbers for calling from U.K. and Europe.
I think since about Feb '24 the service is provided by Aviva, not the AA.
