Hi does anyone know if it's possible to scan photos with a name attached. The problem I'm having is I have started to scan all the photos we have before digital took over, I'm doing them in batches, but my scanning program assigns a number based on how many scans this session, so I end up with the next batch of pix with the same name as the first, and I have to rename each one individually. Is there a way to rename the whole batch? I'm not concerned about what the name is as I plan to rename them all later with as much info as I can (date, place etc.)

Have you tried right clicking on mouse as you hover over the scanned photo and right clicking ? Then there should be a ‘rename’ listed in drop down menu.
only other way I can think is for you to rename in your photo processing software ‘Lightroom’ etc.

I have used this method today and it is working well, I will have to go back and sort the pictures and then give them proper names but at least I can store them easily now. I have done the first box but there is still a larger box to go.

I had a similar issue years ago. What I did as a temporary but quick solution to get me going was to create subfolders.
I had a main folder called scans. Then each sessions I created a new subfolder using the date.
/scans/2021-11-08
/scans/2021-11-09

If I did multiple sessions in a day I would append an additional number
/scans/2021-11-09-2

Later I started doing by location as well
/scans/waddington-air-show-1997
/scans/waddington-air-show-1997-2

All this scanning is just like when we had to scan instruction manuals before they went digital, I have a lot of scanned boiler manuals that are now of no use at all. Does anybody know of someone with a Trisave boiler?

I use XNView in windows both to do the scan and to batch process whether it be renaming or resizing, but if you have found a way of doing it that suits, stick to it.

As GoldenVision says there are a number of third-party renaming utilities out there.
I use Bulk Rename Utility https://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/ regularly and it's very effective with multiple functionality options and it's free. It's also portable so you don't have to install it.
