my hp deskjet 1010 wont print any more

It printed one sheet fine but now wont print; It whirrs, feeds the paper through and sounds like its printing but the page is blank. It sounds like ink but I havent used it much since I put one in. Ive tried to interrogate the ink level and it wont communicate. I'm reluctant to spend £20 on a cartridge as that is half way towards a new printer. Any ideas anyone?

Have you tried going into printer maintenance (from control panel, devices, printers if windows) and doing nozzle check ?
Might be a clue when you say not used it much. Mine has stopped printing properly since away on holiday.

Inkjets if not used regularly can in effect 'dry up' at the print head, are there any instructions for cleaning it to get rid of any gunk/dried ink etc as that sound like the problem to me ... the printer 'thinks' it's printing otherwise it wouldn't send the paper through so it all points to the ink not getting 'out' on to the page.

I would re-boot computer and printer and try using the Toolbox in the HP Solution Software.

I used to take the print heads out and clean them with Isopropyl Alcohol, got fed up after a while and bought a new printer.
