Hi all
Can I have a suggestion or two for an easy to use, reasonably priced multimeter please.
Many thanks
Nick

I bought one like the link below. had it a year & it works well. A lot of functions including diode testing which you may not need - but at that price who cares!

I admit we brought a multi meter not that we know what or how it works , it’s if we loose our electric etc when out there might be someone who knows how to use it and get us going.

It's a very useful bit of kit and they are cheap enough to buy.. As you say, at least you have one so someone could help out and do some testing or advise you on how to check if your in a jam..

We do carry proper tools as well , like gaffa tape, cable ties, wd40, and a hammer. Haha . We are just not technically minded.

I have a couple of decent multi meters but they do not measure DC current which I wanted for the motorhome, so I bought one of these off eBay and it turned out to be a pretty decent bit of kit for the money.

I like a bell for when I'm testing fuses. Makes it so much easier. (y):)

How does that work then ?

Even the cheap ones are accurate these days, I've found my 3 quid one is just as accurate as a100 quid one. I carry both anologue & digital,

I have been doing a bit of "investigating" at the back of my Dometic 8xxx series Fridge and used my cheap multimeter a lot.
One thing it lacks is a continuity tester which allows you to put the two probes at each end of a length of wiring to test that the circuit is working.
A multimeter that has this facility has an icon like a volume button on the dial...

They all have resistance ranges that does the same job.

Thanks Lenny @Lenny HB , my learning curve whilst "working" on this bl****y fridge is so steep I had a nosebleed(y)(y)

I work with meters all the time, from simple cheap multimeters to complicated computer-controlled instruments that cost hundreds of thousands. If I had to choose only one to take on a trip, it would be this one: Uni-T UT210E:

Amazon product ASIN B00V9VL9CC
It will do everything that a standard multimeter will do, including voltage, resistance and continuity with a buzzer.

But it's just so much better when it comes to measuring current (amps). Just clip the clamp around the wire, and it measures the current flowing in it. No disconnecting, no sparks, no risks, just a simple reliable way to measure current.

OK, there's many different clamp meters like this, but this one can measure low currents like 50 milliamps. Most clamp meters measure high currents but not low currents.

For example, if you want to locate the source of a current drain, you can simply clamp round each candidate wire in turn, until you find the offending device.

As a bonus the probes are well insulated right up to the tips, and the voltage and resistance are auto-ranging.

The only downside I can see is, when you switch it on, it goes to AC measuring mode, and you have to press the blue button to switch to DC mode. It can get irritating if you forget this.

Me too - great piece of kit.
