Just a post in case anybody else is in the same situation,we are supposed to be moving on April 6th , that's the completion date as contracts are signed . we were going to live in Motorhome as private site is booked and deposit paid until we buy another property. Technically if we or anybody who has a Completion date we are "IN Breach of Contract" and could be sued if we don't complete and move out !! so said our Solicitor , he also said Law Society are sitting on the fence saying the Law is the Law. now to be honest I am concerned but what the Government has just done is right and all the above means very little as our health is more important than anything. It's a funny old world at the moment.

I hope it all works out for you in the end.
I would hope that suing anybody for this in our current situation would could to nothing.
I would agree but can't help but wonder about the rest of the chain.

We have just started the process. If all members of the chain wish to stop the process, surely a document drafted and agreed by all parties should waiver any penalties.
On our last sell, the buyer could only put up 5% not the usual 10% deposit. We had to sign saying that we agreed to that.
Good luck.......meant in a nice way.

My son and his wife are moving on Thursday, so sympathy to both of you.

People are according to our Estate agent in putting in clauses before signing contracts, to either get out of contact if they sign the said contract and or make sure they cannot be sued.We have signed Contract and have April 6th completion date, so legally we are duty bound to move out , that's life? but??is how we are trying to look at it .

We are in a similar position but not the same as ww haven't yet exchanged. Our solicitor tells me this morning that moving could be very difficult anyway as removal firms, workmen, etc. are usually involved. The implication was that moving was likely to be prohibited as part of the lockdown. Has your solicitor commented on this possibility?

No but the Removal firm is not quite sure how he stands, but, I have left the moving date as is, it's such a fast moving situation

If I hadn’t found the house I really ( really ) want, I’d have called a stop to it all but I don’t want to lose that house.
The man half of the sellers is a newly qualified doctor and they’re talking about bringing graduation forward ( I assume no ceremony) so all NQDs can get to their first hospital posts ASAP.
At the moment I’m just packing boxes, cleaning cupboards etc and hoping for the best.
Feel for everyone in this situation and Tony50 full timing might not be a simple as you expected but it is still possible. Good luck, I hope it works out well for you.

How can anyone move ??? Govt states stay at home!!
Can't have differing rules to suit individuals
How are you moving? Using removal company?
How is this essential
Beggars belief

AFAIK if you HAVE NOT exchanged then you don't have to move out as until the contracts are swapped there is nothing legally binding. If you HAVE exchanged though then I suspect you will have to honour the contract, however, if all in the chain agree to delay things, say by a couple of months, then you may be able to stay.

As you have a place booked to 'live' I suspect you may be able to still do that due to the revised rules allowing you do to so. If you get really stuck I have a nice empty 2 bedroomed bungalow in Scunthorpe which we've got it up for rent that has room for your MH to park on the drive, we've got it up at market value rent but I'd be happy to take less rent, just cover the basics, if it will help a fellow MHer for a few months.

I’m with Minxy on this one, if the contracts are signed AND exchanged, the contract becomes legally binding with penalties for failure to move. Extraordinary times though, so you would hope common sense would prevail. A genuine hope for good luck .

the signed contract will overrule boris

Do you have a mate who will let you park in their drive?
I have a son who has a large bit of grass outside his next to his quiet road probably owned by Council or Highways. Update even if we can move , just had email from Campsite we were going on said Council has closed site to new campers although we have paid deposit , and got Barrier Key and Electric Meter prepaid card, but were moving 5 miles to site through countryside , that's life I suppose

We are due to exchange (moving date is supposed to be 3rd April)

We are also going to full time, perfect timing has always been our forte

Our bigger van was to be collected after Easter, dealers now shut until further notice.

So looks like the daughters driveway for us in the PVC, if of course the contracts are actually exchanged and we have to be out of our current house.

Our current house is entirely empty, as we have disposed of all our furniture, we are currently on camping chairs in the Lounge.

Happy days :LOL::LOL:

Yet apparently Gove has said people can go to their allotments which in many cases will involve a drive of more than five miles.

Hi thanks , we are hoping that everything works out for you, we will some how get on with it but, the husband and wife who are buying ours are police, and have just started jobs in Suffolk but live over 100 miles away, to make things worse for them they have a severely disabled son, so we don't consider our position as bad as theirs

Unfortunately you don't know all the circumstances, and we are not looking for sympathy just informing those who are interested who may be in the same position.
Thanks!!

My house purchase paperwork is "up in the air" at the moment.
Waiting to hear what solicitors have to say.
I would be moving about 3 miles down the road and planned to hire a van and do it myself with my son over a few days (this was always our intention).
We wouldn't be in contact with anyone else at all - is one argument.
Essential movement? - not sure, it is a short distance.
Not sure if we could become homeless as landlord has had notice served by us (before the current crisis).
We shall see.

We're in a similar position. Contract not signed yet as buyers solicitor waiting for answer from their first time buyers solicitors so no date settled. Our problem is we're supposed to commit to our new build by the 30th April. We were going to stay in our static but site has been supposedly closed but I suspect it won't be a problem as a few cars there today and didn't look like they were moving. Our new house wasn't going to be ready until end of October so obviously if builders in lockdown it will be even longer and don't really want to be there over Christmas. Like everyone in this thread everything uncertain.

From what I've read whilst The British Association of Removals has strongly recommended members to complete any moves that are already underway and cancel or suspend any that haven’t yet commenced. It also said that the final decision on whether to proceed lays with the individual companies.

Michael Gove said this morning that house sales could proceed if essential.

Seems to me a house removal is not a social or retail interaction. Delivery trucks and mail order businesses are carrying on as usual. Within the restrictions as they have been articulated I think sales and moves should be allowed to proceed.

But who knows, the rules seem loosely defined and hopefully clarity will come soon.

I bet we return to the same scam as last downturn. There is a chain and the one at the bottom says they are X amount short on their money and if everyone in the chain gives them X amount the sale can go forward. As everyone is in to deep they pay up .

We had completed and moved out of our house and all furniture into a storage container. It has been our intention to buy another house and have been looking and living in the MH until one found. Was staying on a CMC site until Sunday. Now living with daughter during the lock down as all sites shut. If you can still complete and move out I would. If you are going to live in the van there is a posting where people are offering parking for full timers.
Good luck
