We have an Autotrail Scout and found a "mouse super highway" up the wiring loom into the cupboard housing the sargent unit. Evidence of mice in the cupboard. The panel behind the drivers door bulges out and is completely open at the bottom. Hubby has fashioned an infill and sealed it in with silicone. He forgot to take photo of it completely sealed but we will be checking to see if the little blighters have attempted to chew their way through.
Thought it might be useful for anyone else struggling with mice.

Just pray the MoT man doesn't fail it as an inappropriate repair

Won't they just look for somewhere else to get in?

I think you need traps outside the van

A mouse can get through a hole 6mm in diameter about the size of a pencil. It looks like there could still be a small gap around the loom, if they are used to getting in there, they will continue to attempt it.

Err, they might... but I for one will be happy that they are not using the wiring to the control centre for the habitation to get there with the potential of them stopping to gnaw their way through the wiring loom. Apparently they like to eat 15 times a night and spend the rest of the time gnawing on things to shorten their constantly growing teeth! Just wanted to make others aware of the vulnerability of the wiring if they had the same set up.

We're stored in the countryside. Many field mice all around so not practical to think we can exterminate them all, even if we wanted to. We have had traps inside but are now just leaving a single small piece of chocolate to check if we have had visiters. Our latest effort, apart from blocking any potential access points, is flashing fairy lights around and inside the van and under the bonnet, timed to come on at dusk till dawn. They probably think we've arranged a disco for them!

Block any holes up with wire wool making sure you fix it in place with a bit of sealent so they cant pull it out of the way.

It is all sealed now, hubby just forgot to take photo. I agree they are likely to attempt entry so we will be keeping a check to see if they have nibbled the silicone. If they do we are going to cover it with wire wool. That's if they brave the flashing lights we have set up now to try and deter them. We only have the problem when the weather turns colder and by rights we would have been away if Covid hadn't happened. Tunnel booked for 10th Feb so just need to hold them off until then!

We were next to an autotrail owner with a mouse problem last month. Thats exactly how they got in and one up there they were travelling along the fibreglass moulding between wall and roof which rather surprisingly had no insulation at all , and trying to nest in the roof anove the bed.

We had mice in a c'van many years ago... it/they nibbled the cableing thru floor to fire and the climbed thru the hole.. clever little feckers. 😎😎

We were shocked at just how easy and, one would have thought obvious, an entry point for mice it was. Fingers crossed that we have at least closed that avenue off to them now!

They are indeed clever! Best we have another look under the van near the heater.

Get some light under the van at night, A string of LEDS will do. (y)

There’s no way on earth I’d be putting wire wool near power cables, while the stuff is excellent for a lot of chores, it’s deadly near power and is easily set alight.

Lots of stuff on YouTube about it, but don’t think I’d be packing it into any cavities on the van, especially around electrical wiring.

A myth/Old wives tale.

I reckon they are fat well fed mice 🤣
They might be "Winney the Pooh" mice, fat little feckers got stuck after gobbling up all the bait!
I suppose it's all right to say that, or do mice's lives matter as well now?
Mike.

Blimey! Thanks for that, I had no idea it could do that. I'll be very careful where I use it, if at all.

Thanks, we put led flashing fairy lights under van about a week ago and I think they have worked. We have two sets under the bonnet, some in garage and both under and in the van. The to come on at dusk till dawn. Looks like Santa's grotto!

According to the mhs owner its also a favourite place for rot in the body as the water is thrown up from the front wheels.
