Hello MotorhomeFun

Got my tickets for Newbury an Malvern meet. How do I get to the MotorhomeFun pitch on the Thursday afternoon when I shall be arriving. Also what size of car (weight wise) would be legal to pull in a 664 escape motorhome?

Thanks in advance

Geoff

Cannot answer the question I am afraid, but....
Remember to take in to account the weight of the trailer for the car too..
My Phoenix Smart car trailer is 300 kilos
There are loads of different models of Smartie but if you take 750kg as the average you will not be far wrong ( The heaviest is the Passion Cabriolet at about 8o0k )

Thanks Jaws

I have an appointment today at Mercedes concerning the smart car so I can take that in with me.

MotorhomeFun users can any of you recommend a good a-frame for towing cars?

While there are several options you should be aware they are not exactly smiled upon outside the UK, and even here there is a constant battle as to whether they are legal or not.. Fortunately as it is such a grey area most police officers will turn a blind eye rather than get involved in what was and is a constantly shifting mine field!

We tow our Smart car on a Brian James Smart trailer.
It's perfectly balanced and can be pushed about with the car on and it does not tip.

With the rear legs lowered you can even load the car without the trailer hitched if you are careful.
Ramps are easy to use, and its a really easy tow.

You need to look at the VIN plate under the bonnet for the vans train weight.
could be shown as GCVW.
That will determine the cars max weight.
be aware, if using an A frame you must use the cars GROSS WEIGHT figure to determine the weight, regardless of what it actually weights.

Secondly, do you have the correct licence category to tow a trailer over 750kg ?

Cat B+E or C1+E.
pre 1997 licence should include the above.....but not always.

Do a search for the full report I posted after they did a tow bar for me.
Got to agree read your report back then and i dont like there t/bars but a frame looks ok
