Hi all. We have a new van and have had installed the Huawei Compact Plus 4g LTE Advanced Router with a Smarty sim card, supplied by Motorhome Wifi.

Usage in UK was fine, but we've crossed into Europe and cannot get connected. I've been in touch with Adam over the past 10 days, I'm getting nowhere.

To use the Smarty card in Europe I need to change the APN in the router settings. To access router settings I need the Huawei app to connect to my Huawei device, and this it will not do, or I certainly can not get it to do so. I can't get to see the Huawei Smart Home Main Screen as per picture.

Can anyone advise please? Is it me? 🙂 Am I missing something obvious or has anyone else had this problem and has the solution?
I set the app to scan for the router but it cannot find or connect.

Many TIA.

Connect your Huawei to your laptop with a cable, it should automatically see the device and open the settings page, if not enter the web address Link Removed, you can set it up there. Did you activate the smarty sim before you left the UK?

Edit, just seen that it did work in UK

If you don't have a laptop-

To connect to the app on your phone/tablet you need to scroll down to wi-fi extender on the Huawei and make sure the box is ticked.

On your phone’s wi-fi setting click on the Huawei, open the Huawei app and scan for devices.

In the app, click on the settings button (top right corner) and then Network, you can set the smarty apn settings here

I had this problem with smarty last week and here are the steps to fix.

1 - From your mobile phone connect to the Mifi wireless network
2 - Launch the Huaweiailife app on your phone
3 - Select the Motorhome wifi mifi
4 - Click on the show more at the bottom of the main screen
5 - Click on APN
6 - Click on the + sign to create a new APN
7 - use mob.asm.net as the APN address, use 3 as the name
8 - Save and activate the new profile

And all should be ok.

Hi This may help from the smarty website on how to set the APN on the Router

Setting up your phone to work abroad

Updating your settings so SMARTY works abroad

1 - Go to ‘Settings’

2 - Look for ‘Mobile networks or APN…’

3 - Change or create the ‘APN’ settings as follows:

Name: 3

APN: mob.asm.net

User name: [leave blank]

Password: [leave blank]

MMSC: http://mms.um.three.co.uk:10021/mmsc

MMS proxy: mms.three.co.uk

MMS port: 8799

APN type: internet + mms

4. Save your settings if applicable

Your device will most likely have a setting which turns roaming on or off - you'll need to make sure roaming is switched on, too.

That’s all! 👍

If you have a smart phone use the mapping offered, Android or iOS use Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze all of which are free. If you eat to have size of vehicle settings then it appears that Sygic (paid for) does the business. I personally stick to Apple by preference but I do have to beware of narrow roads.

Hi guys, thanks very much.
These are the 2 screens I am seeing, neither of which allows me to follow suggestions so far.
Very grateful, but any other ideas? Screenshot_20220217-134148_AI Life.jpgScreenshot_20220217-134048_AI Life.jpg

From the first picture you do not appear to be connected to the wifi network of the van you should see the device on the screen and when you access it you get this screen.

Yes.

Since I did a reset this morning though I've had no service.
Even so, would this prevent the app from connecting with the device?

I can connect but cannot access. I believe the screenshot you have is from the app. I cannot get that page on my app, the app cannot find the router. This is the crux of my problem.

I've just checked on my Huawei and the app connects whether the wifi extender is on or off, but the phone's wifi has to be connected to the Huawei

Hi I am not talking about the App, The OP has WIFI extender switched on, WIFI extender on the router is for when you are trying to connect to another WIFI network, to use that network and not use Mobile Data network, if that is switch on then the 4G is switch off. WIFI extender would normally be used if you are a site that has good WIFI to save using your Data.

I'm still using the Huawei HiLink app and not the Huawei AlLife, maybe try it with that app
Motorhome Wifi specify you should not use Hilink app to change the APN. You must use AI Life. I had the same problem.

I know what Wi-Fi extender does but the OP says that he can’t connect his phone to the Huawei, he should be able to connect irrelevant of Wi-Fi extender being on or off as long as his phone’s Wi-Fi is connected to the Huawei

May help maybe not.
when opening the AI life app it asks me to update. This update will not work for me version 12.0.0.308. I have to revert to old version 11.0.2.305 when I do this all is well. So check which version you are using. Where you showed the image of two screens at the bottom of the second one 'about'.

Yes but he does not need to be able login to router via the App to turn off WIFI Extender, his problem as i see it is that he can not get any Network service this is due to WIFI extender being switch on, this can turn this off by using the menu and power buttons on the router.

No, his problem is that the phone will not connect via the app to allow him to change the APN

Agh. I had updated the app, but having checked as you advised my app is running on version 11.0.2.305.
Curses, I thought we might have been on to something there. 😬
