Morning all

Currently trying to get the van MOT'ed today. I've come all the way to the previous owners regular garage to do the MOT which is fine. I have also asked them to replace the rear bushes as they are worn, along with checking the gearbox oil (comformatic) and the hydrolic clutch fluid as recommended on here. It's been booked in for 4 weeks.

Just been told all they can do is an MOT. Everything else would be fiat commercial.

Can anybody recommend anywhere in the north west for an actual decent garage who know what they are doing? This is my third try on getting these works done.

I'm not taking my motorhome to fiat, ever! 😀

My next option is to drive to Germany and find somebody who works on Carthago's

Thanks

Where is the previous owners regular Garage ?? I am in the Midlands & our Fiat Dealer doesn't work on Van's sends them to a place in Stoke I rang for Comfortmatic Cluid Fluid change wanted £475 so travelled to Adams Morey in Portsmouth, worth every penny in Diesel £145 for Clutch Fluid change 😀

I've used these guys for a service and MOT on a Fiat based A Class. They seemed to know their stuff but I didn't have any repair work done so can't comment on that. They do lots of public service vehicle serving work, ambulances etc.

Do not know where in the North West you are located, or how far you are prepared to travel. But these are the guys I use for service and MOT.
Not the cheapest, but I always think you get what you pay for.
(And that’s a Yorkshireman talking !)
So far I have been happy with their work. They cover both commercial and private vehicles. I’m always impressed how clean and organised their workshop is, unlike some garages you visit. They also have a courtesy car you can hire should you need one.
Might be worth a phone call to see if they can do the work you require, and to give you a quote.

Hi Ads86 Found the same problem with a main dealer in Radcliffe, couldn’t do anything and never checked hydraulic/clutch fluid on Comformatic system. I found Motorsave (https://motorsave.net/) in Swinton 3x years ago. They are quite expensive but really thorough and really know their stuff. They did my cambelt and have done all my service work since. They keep you well informed and are also quick. I have no affiliation with this company, Janine in service reception is extremely helpful.
Hope this is of some use.

Another vote for Motorsave, have used them twice now, last week for a recall on the cam belt. They sorted it all in a day plus did another job that we didn’t even mention. They’re about 2 miles off the M60, J16.

I Use Standish Service Station, and have found them to be pretty reasonable all round, for Class 4 MoTs and servicing.

They are cheaper than my local Fiat main dealer, and to the best of my knowledge, they don't use 'cheap and nasty' spare parts.

They have repaired several major components for me, including, steering, suspension, and airbag ECU, and carry out my annual servicing requirements. Courtesy cars are available; the location is not on a bus route.

They are located on a commercial/business/industrial estate on the outskirts of Standish, which is 5 miles North of Wigan.

How far North are you as I know some folk class Manchester as the NW, if further N then try Logan Vehicle services in Carluke. Fully qualified Fiat master technician and knows his way around the comfortmatic, my last service included the comfortmatic oils but if getting done on its own it was £90 plus vat last June, also gives 10% for fun members.

Calder Valley Motorhomes are good near Huddersfield (like others say, depends how NW you are). Family firm and do a sound job.

Ended up coming back to the UK for family stuff and I've taken the van into Motorsave, Swinton. It's taken them 6 days but they have finally sourced some rear shock absorbers for the van. The bushes can't just be changed, it's got to be the whole unit, which for peace of mind I'm happy with.

£800 for 2 rear shockers replaced and fitted..... It was a bit of a shocker!

Another thumbs up for Motorsave from me (Not sure how I missed this thread I have given them a clean bill of health in another thread.) They are main agents and so not cheap but they are reliable and efficient. As an added bonus for me they are a handful of stops down the railway line into Manchester and they are walkable from Swinton station!

They sorted my MOT and did some work for me in April 2025. That was a first check up following purchase a year earlier so I wanted a thorough overview. I will look for an indy garage for future years in the interest of saving pennies but I cannot fault them.

I use D P Firth, located in Chadderton near Oldham. They do MOTs for Cars, commercials and motorbikes. They have workshops where they work on their own trucks, and do repairs on all types of vehicle.

I take my Hymer and the 125cc scooter for MOT there. They recently did a cambelt change on my Hymer for a very reasonable cost. I definitely recommend them. One of the mechanics has a motorhome, so they know what they are doing.
