Am thinking of taking a trip to Bulgaria in the next couple of months and although have done the trip many times in the past the last time was some 20 years ago.
So, has anyone done the trip recently and if so which route do you sugest.
I was thinking of returning via Greece-Italy around September time but would like to know what overland route would be best from Belgium.

Hi
Have friends who have just done the journey in their motorhome and arrived last week - will try and get hold of them. They have been having internet and mobile problems so might take a while. Will let you know as soon as I hear. Couple of messages we had while they were travelling was that it was 'interesting' journey. Roads pretty bad the nearer they got.
Get back to you soon
Cheers

I know it a bummer Dave when you have both Tom Tom & Garmin sat nav:Wink:

Which one to go with:Rofl1::Rofl1::Rofl1::Rofl1::Rofl1:

Hi John,I have tomtom, garmin and mio satnavs, but eastern Europe is not on any of them.
Don't know of any satnavs that go out there, and even if they did I sure as hell wouldn't trust any of them, especially with non EU border crossings.

Why ?

What's there that's worth that drive ?
Simple answer Brian is....Why not!!!

Wouldn't do for us all to go to Spain,France,Italy, all at the same time would it. Have never been one for following the crowd.

I supose you could say...why travel all that way to Maroc, but a lot do.

I worked there, Mrs ShiftZZ saw more of Sofia than I did, I ended up seeing mostly the Irish bar, good food.

Did avoid the local speciality dish, tripe...

Enjoy

Hi Dave ..

There is a member on 365 , goes by the name on BarnyBG , Welshman I believe, who lives in Bulgaria and commutes annually to the UK, used to be on here .. could also try some of the other forums, he's bound to be clued up on the best route.

Also a lot of info on Bulgaria on Magbaz travels site. http://www.magbaztravels.com/content/category/8/18/30/

Thanks for that one Jim,I remember Barny now you mention him.
Just thought I would give Bulgy a try for a change having fallen out with the Euro monetary countries. I believe you get more bang for ya buck in Bulgy.

Cant help you with the route but have been to Bulgaria 5 times and its a lovely country.

OK, am in the final planing stages of this Bulgy trip and have got some prices for the Ancona-Patras ferry. This saves almost 1000kms,and for 194 Euros it will save on fuel.
This seems to be a better route than going completely overland.
Has anyone done this route?.

BUMP

Hasn't anyone ever driven to Bulgy???

Have been looking for BarnyBG but he seems to have disappeared off the planet.

Have visited Bulgaria but that was before they joined the EU.

If you plan to use the ferry option go via Igoumenitsa and take the northern Greek motorway (A2) it will be an easier drive than from Patras. This is a link to the motorway network Link Removed

There have been reports of many illegal immigrants at the ports of Patras and Igoumenitsa trying to get to mainland Italy so don't plan an overnight stop at either port area.

I'm also waiting reply from ANEK lines but it's only been a week.

In the past I've got useful info from http://www.ferries.gr/ you could also try http://www.viamare.com/

For details of our trip to Bulgaria see http://www.magbaztravels.com/content/view/710/30/

If I can be of further help please get back to me.

Safe travelling.
