Hi All - its that time of year coming again and just wanted to ask which companies do you all use for your motorhome insurance ?

Also do you insure personal items separate on your policies as many policies don't cover the full value e.t.c

Many thanks Chris

Best of Luck. I'm just going through the same process. If it helps, at £417.01 the best quote I've received is from LV. It includes UK and European breakdown cover. my MH is 3850kgs. 7.5m long 3.0 high. 2016 fitted with rear air assist suspension. My main criteria is UK & EU breakdown cover including vehicle repatriation from EU. See all my post on insurance/breakdown cover which my help you.

You will do best to ring around or research on the web.

We change almost every year due to the farce that is renewal premiums. Almost always higher than the previous year but likely to be reduced when challenged, especially if you have a genuine lower quote available.

Previously C&MC and Comfort this year.
Yes, some personal items covered under alternative insurance due to value limitations.

Have used Caravan Guard for a number of years but still have to challenge the renewal quote every year with success. The existing customer plus some comparable quotes succeeds in a quote fairly close to the previous year. Only had to claim once and happy with outcome.

Was with comfort but renewal came in at £863, got through caravan club at £400 including legal cover.

I’ve been ringing around today and it’s a right pain, haven’t received my renewal notification from Safeguard yet as they seem to leave it till last possible minute, have got three quotes so far For our 2018 Hymer B678DL value around £80-85k and all asking about tracker. Stored at home on drive and in a safe post code area.
Do have Strikeback and non starter but the won’t accept that as tracker as not a Thatcham cat S5/6/7 approved
Incidentally Safeguard wanted in excess of £800 last year but weren’t bothered about tracker
Aidrian Flux £502 (inc breakdown). 7500 miles.
Comfort £502.72 (inc breakdown). 8000 miles
LV=. £385 (exc breakdown). 8000 miles
C&CC. £945. “ “ “ 8000 miles
Saga. Awaiting call tomorrow. 8000 miles
looks like it will have to be safeguard again.?

you do wonder how the make up the sums?

I phoned AIB today,to ask why I had not received a renewal quote. They said that they had sent me a letter and had phoned, but I have received no letter or phone call, they also said they would phone back with a quote, but that hasn't happened either. Guess I'll have to try again tomorrow.

Waiting for my renewal quote (due 8th June) but decided to start the saga of getting quotes. Used ‘Compare the Market’ and they have come up with a quote of £302 via broker BG insurance. I paid £296 last year so will be happy with that and it does include travel in Europe - if I ever get back there! Haven’t included breakdown cover as that is with the RAC and includes the car.
I do wish companies would ask early on in their questions about where the vehicle is parked as several companies won’t cover as it on a residential parking bay on the road - and it’s only at the end they say they can’t quote ??

I just can’t get my head round that either, surely it’s better to immobilise it in the first place via non starter and stop it being driven down the road and away, than have it go off drive and have someone in a control room letting you know where it’s being stripped down or burnt out??
Is it me?‍♂️?‍♂️

Interesting was that direct or through a broker please and what mileage.

We’ll Saga will not insure a vehicle value over £75000 without a Thatcham approved tracker.
And on reading small print on Aidrian Flux the windscreen cover is only £1500.
The people on the end of the phone. Don’t seem to listen to what you ask for I always ask the same questions to enable comparisons importantly unlimited screen cover.
How on earth do they expect us to compare when they don’t listen??

I totally agree it’s a pity meta teak can’t get it approved as it’s a great system and I’m very confident about its security. ??

Aviva policy through CMC :) Cheaper this year than last for the same policy but you need to check it meets your requirements.

We have not renewed breakdown cover at the moment but will once we feel safe enough to go traveling again - and it is okay to do so. The former will come after the later I think.

If asked a few weeks ago who I would recommend for motorhome insurance then I would have suggested Adrian Flux. They insured our first van for 18 months and then when we changed van 2 years ago to a new Bailey, they were brilliant. Incredibly frustrating then when I receive an email stating that they will not be renewing our policy this year unless we have a tracker fitted. Didn’t need one for the last two years when the unit would have been worth more. Like others, have an immobiliser and a wheel lock and live in a low crime rate area. I understand that if stolen that the insurance company would rather recover the vehicle and I also understand that by their very nature a Motorhome is not always parked in the same place, but surely better to prevent it being stolen in the first place? Anyway phoned around and ended up back with same insurer just at a lower value below the tracker threshold (£50k I believe). Around £480 including European breakdown and 8000 miles. I am happy with that. Parked next to it on the same driveway is the horse box, same base vehicle, of a similar value and no tracking device required. Is motorhome theft really that prevalent ? I park mine in all manner of spots stealth camping (if you can call it stealth in an 8m white box) and I have never considered that it might get stolen. More concerned about some pond life breaking in and causing unnecessary damage in order to make off with one of the kids tablets or such like, or nicking my mountain bike off the back. Tracker is not going to help then.....

Just an update I have got my renewal from Safeguard today £950 and I knocked them down to £702 but got in touch with LV= and same particulars was £458 so guess who I’m going to use?
Why do Safeguard put in such high renewals and the can knock Over £250 at the stroke of a pen? ?

Any UK/Eu breakdown inc in that? My insurance is due soon so I guess I’ll have to get on the insurance merry go round, although I got a letter of caravan guard (previous quote) offering me ins for £296 plus 20% off, but that was for my old van?‍♂️

AIB were the only company who never got back to me after ringing several others. Bad start

Got a good quote off Think insurance who are brokers and policy was with Aviva.

Eventually got a good quote from AIB, better than last year. Probably less risk this year, going no where.

Just got my renewal through and it’s gone up £60 cheeky ****** not been allowed to use it for three months. Time to look around. (y)

Insured mine with Comfort again yesterday. £404 without breakdown, up almost 40 quid from last year.
Been with them 7 years now but told her that I felt they were taking my custom for granted and I would be shopping around next year.
