Hi,

I just spent the weekend up to my elbows in Maguire's and a machine polisher giving our MH a spruce up. I also degunked the roof. What's the consensus with respect to MH covers? It seems sensible, with the only downside being we might use it less if it's a faff to remove.

Also wondering about how to best protect the tyres if the vehicle isn't going to move for a few months.

And finally - to wax oil the underneath or not. Any downsides to this? It's a 2008 Apache and very nice underneath so keen to keep it that way.

Any advice is welcome including links to decent kit.

cheers

OK, I did a search on here (shoulda done that first) so please ignore the cover question! I can see it's one of "those" questions :)

Most would never use a cover, they’re far better off in the fresh air. Coupled to that, the rippling effect of the wind will strip off all the paint and beyond on high spots and corners.

Seen the damage myself to a caravan so would steer clear. Just my experience with it all and you might have no problems but what a gamble when you remove the cover again

I used a spray on waxoil based tar and stone chip to completely seal under the entire van. Even removed all the inner wheel-arches and did the inner wings.

Got it from Halfords. Even did the entire floorpan and arches on the car.

Don't use a cover.

If mine hasn't been used for a couple of weeks I take it out on a sunny day for a say 30 mile run, having a brew parked at a viewpoint. Upon return the tyres are likely to come to rest in a different spot each time.
Mine's parked tight against the North wall of my house so no sun to affect the tyres.

Waxoil - CBA'd ;)

Another vote against covers
For tyres, above advice is good and it exercises the rest of the MH as well. If you are going to lay up for a few months though then tyre guards are a good idea as it slows degradation from UV. Loads of sellers, just get one for the correct wheel diameter- 15“ or 16”.
For the underneath, if it is sound and still has the original paint in good condition then a waxoyl or stone chip treatment is good. I have used the product above.
